UFC on Fox: Betting Odds and Predictions

Jordan LuchtefeldNov 10, 2011

UFC on Fox is quickly approaching, and I’m here to tell you what the betting odds are for the biggest fights on the card. Betting on fights can be fun and stressful at the same time. If your fighter wins, then it is an indescribable feeling of joy, but if your fighter loses, then it feels like the world is crashing down on you.

The problem with this card is that Fox has only guaranteed to show one fight; that fight being the Heavyweight Championship bout between current Champion Cain Velasquez and Junior Dos Santos. The fans lucked out however, because facebook.com and fox.com are streaming all the preliminary fights.

There is some serious money to be won on this card as no fighters are huge favorites. If you have never bet on a UFC card, then this might be the card to start.

Warning: It is not my fault if you take my advice and lose all of your money. These are just some tips and predictions. All of my odds come from sportsbook.com.

Darren Uyenoyama (+300) vs. Kid Yamamoto (-500)

1 of 6

One of the highlights from the preliminary card includes a gritty battle at 135 lbs. Darren Uyenoyama comes in with a 6-3 record and looks to hand Kid Yamamoto his second loss in the UFC. Uyenoyama finally makes his debut in the organization, as he has made a name for himself in Japan.

Japan, however, is where Kid Yamamoto hails from. Kid was once known as the best 135 pounder in the world that wasn’t in the WEC but has since lost that claim after he was crushed by Demetrious Johnson and lost three of his last four fights.

The odds makers put this one at Kid Yamamoto (-500) and Darren Uyenoyama (+300). A little steep seeing that Kid hasn’t looked like the same guy recently. If there is an upset on the card, I would go with Uyenoyama taking this one. Kid will want to stand and throw bombs and go for the kill, but Uyenoyama has only been knocked out once in his career.

Sleeper of the night goes to Uyenoyama in the upset for a chance to triple your money. Don’t put big money however, because everybody knows that Kid Yamamoto can go back to his former self.

Clay Harvison (+215) vs. Damarques Johnson (-275)

2 of 6

Clay Harvison rolls into this fight knowing that he needs a win to stay in the UFC. He is 1-1 in the organization after dropping his last fight to Seth Baczynski in September. Saying it is easier than doing it because DaMarques Johnson is basically in the same predicament.

Johnson comes into the fight with a UFC record of 3-3 and an overall record of 12-9. Hovering around a .500 record may be impressive if you’re the Pittsburgh Pirates, but not if you’re a UFC fighter.

The line has Damarques Johnson at a -275 and Harvison at +215. Damarques Johnson can be a beast if he is against the right opponent, and he is one scary dude when his back is against the wall.

No upset here as Johnson takes the win and keeps his UFC career alive. Johnson may be a guy you could parlay with a slight underdog on the card. You should only use Johnson in a parlay situation because betting on him straight up won’t get you very much dough.

Cub Swanson (+135) vs. Ricardo Lamas (-135)

3 of 6

Cub Swanson may be best known for being on Jose Aldo’s impressive highlight reel, but on Saturday, he hopes to make a name for himself as he makes his UFC debut. The 28-year-old Swanson still has room to grow, and with a win over Lamas, he could soon be making a case for a title shot and a potential rematch with Aldo.

Ricardo Lamas proved he is UFC quality back at UFC Live 4 when he brutalized Matt Grice in the first round. Lamas and Swanson both are showstoppers, and it is surprising that these two WEC veterans haven’t met before.

Lamas comes into the fight as the slight favorite at -135. Swanson isn’t that far behind, as he is barely an underdog at +105. There isn’t any real money to be won, but what do you say about parlaying Swanson with Damarques Johnson?

Go with Swanson and parlay him with Johnson or another favorite on the card.

Dustin “The Diamond” Poirier (-275) vs. Pablo Garza (+215)

4 of 6

Dustin Poirier made a name for himself after beating Josh Grispi at UFC 125 and ruining Grispi’s chance at the Featherweight title. Poirier may be close to becoming the No. 1 contender, as he is 10-1, while riding a 3 fight win streak.

Poirier faces off against little known Pablo "The Scarecrow" Garza, who is actually 2-0 in the UFC and 11-1 overall. The submission ace defeated Yves Jabouin in his last bout with a flying triangle choke in the first round.

Jabouin gives Poirier some problems, but don’t get me wrong: he deserves to be the underdog in this fight. Poirier is poised to make a title run and he won’t let the “Scarecrow” stand in his way.

Garza might need A.C. Slater in his corner on Saturday night, because Dustin “Diamond” may bring Garza’s career to a screeching halt.

Ben Henderson (-260) vs. Clay Guida (+200)

5 of 6

In the “co-main event,” Ben “Smooth” Henderson battles Clay “The Carpenter” Guida for most likely a shot at Frankie Edgar and the Lightweight title. Henderson has probably been the most impressive 155er that has made the transition from the WEC to the UFC. He has only lost one time since 2007 and has looked fantastic since dropping the WEC title to Anthony Pettis.

Clay Guida has gone from the gatekeeper of the Lightweight division to one win away from possibly fighting for gold. Guida has reeled off four consecutive wins since dropping fights to former contenders Kenny Florian and Diego Sanchez.

Ben Henderson loves to push the pace. Clay Guida absolutely loves to push the pace. Their wrestling skills are both phenomenal, so this one may be decided on the feet. Henderson’s best chance has to be going for submissions.

If you love the underdog, then this is your bet. Guida was doubted against Takanori Gomi and Pettis, and he somehow pulled out wins. This fight is the best chance to double your money. I say get risky and go with “The Carpenter.” Expect a fast-paced war.

Cain Velasquez (-175) vs. Junior Dos Santos (+145)

6 of 6

IT’S TIME!!!! The main event of the evening is between the Heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez and No. 1 contender Junior “Cigano” Dos Santos. I’m going to throw it out there right now: I love these odds.

Cain hasn’t fought in over a year and may have a bit of ring rust, but I doubt it. Velasquez is the champion for a reason and can knock out nearly every heavyweight in the world. His wrestling is undeniable and his hands are incredible. But he has been rocked before (Cheick Kongo at UFC 99).

Junior Dos Santos has been an absolute wrecking ball since joining the UFC. Dos Santos goes for the kill once the bell rings. He throws haymakers and looks to put on a show. Cigano stood and threw hands with Shane Carwin, Roy Nelson, Gilbert Yvel, and Mirko Cro Cop. Never has he been close to being knocked out.

Junior Dos Santos comes in as the underdog obviously, but I love his odds. If Cain got rocked against Kongo, then imagine what JDS could do.

Throw some money on JDS to nab the upset and wait for Bruce Buffer to say.. AND THE NEW HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION OF THE WORLD JUNIOR DOS SANTOS!!!
