Anderson Silva vs. Chael Sonnen: 5 Reasons Silva's Reign Will End
Since entering the UFC in June of 2006, Anderson Silva has established himself as arguably the greatest mixed martial artist of all time.
In fact, Silva has never lost when entering the Octagon, posting a perfect 14-0 record.
Not only has Silva been successful, as he is the reigning UFC middleweight champion, but he's beaten some of the world's greatest fighters in Dan Henderson, Chael Sonnen and Vitor Belfort.
However, every historical run must come to an end.
And, for Silva, his unbeaten streak in the UFC will come to an end when he meets Sonnen for a second time in early 2012.
So, the following slides display five reasons why Silva's reign as champion will come to an end.
Let's take a look.
Sonnen Isn't Scared
1 of 5Despite coming up just short in his championship bout against Silva at UFC 117, Sonnen dominated four-and-a-half rounds like no fighter has ever done.
Following the fight, many UFC fans across the globe began to question how he did it.
The answer is simple...Sonnen wasn't scared.
Too often when an opponent enters the Octagon with Silva they attempt to feel him out instead of engaging in battle.
It's almost as if his opponents are hesitant and are afraid of getting caught.
But, this isn't the case for Sonnen, as he's shown to be one of the only men to attack Silva seconds into their fight.
Sonnen Is Too Strong
2 of 5Rarely ever have we seen Silva been thrown around and pounded on as he was by Sonnen at UFC 117 in Oakland, California.
Sonnen imposed his will on the middleweight champion, as he took him down on three different occasions and was only taken down once himself.
Even when Sonnen was taken down, he immediately escaped and returned to his feet.
Silva has never faced a stronger mixed martial artist than Sonnen.
Sonnen's Wrestling Is Too Good
3 of 5Many UFC fans fail to realize just how good Sonnen's wrestling skills truly are.
In fact, prior to entering the UFC in October of 2005, Sonnen was a two time All-American wrestler at the University of Oregon.
And, Sonnen showed the world just how exceptional his skill set is, as he rarely allowed Silva to escape the entire night when they met at UFC 117.
If Sonnen can once again put Silva on his back and control the fight, he'll have a great chance of being declared the new UFC middleweight champion.
He's in Silva's Head
4 of 5Let's be honest, Silva doesn't want to fight Sonnen.
In fact, Sonnen's done just about everything a man can possibly do to provoke a fight with Silva and still he declined.
But, it finally came to fruition when Dana White announced that the two will square off in early 2012.
Fans shouldn't think that all of Sonnen's trash talk was worthless, as it apparently got to Silva's head after a while.
He'll Be Better Prepared for the Submission
5 of 5After manhandling Silva for nearly the entire fight, Sonnen was caught in a Triangle Armbar with just two minutes remaining in the fight.
Sonnen displayed a near perfect performance, but still failed to capture the win.
One thing's for sure, heading into their rematch, Sonnen will be better prepared to defend against Silva's submission attacks.
Besides, if Sonnen repeats his dominance as he did in their first meeting, it might be the only way Silva could come out on top again.
