Manny Pacquiao: Why Mayweather is PacMan's Only Fight Left
There is only one fight that truly matters.
Assuming Manny Pacquiao defeats Juan Manuel Marquez on Saturday night in Round 3 of their trilogy (it’s a safe assumption considering he is currently 9-to-1 favorites) then there is only one thing left to do: Fight Floyd Mayweather.
It’s been what the boxing world has been clamoring for the last two plus years, and it’s the only way Pacquiao can truly put to bed any thoughts about who is the best boxer in the world. The boxers are already linked together, the only two fighters mainstream America knows. They will forever be connected to each other regardless of if they fight each other or not.
Nobody wants to watch him fight guys like Shane Mosley, Timothy Bradley, Sergio Martinez and Andre Berto at this point in the 32-year-old's career. There have been enough lesser opponents in Pacquiao’s career. It’s time to take the next step.
He has nothing to prove to the average boxing fan by fighting a young up-and-comer. He's been there, done that.
Whether they are right or not, the OVERWHELMING consensus believes that the two best boxers in the world right now are Pacquiao and Mayweather, with the order yet to be determined.
Boxing is all about being the very best, the champ, and the undisputed champion. Boxing more than any other sport is all about getting to the very top so you can hoist that belt. Settling for 1A and 1B isn’t enough. Many believe the fight would shatter the all-time pay-per-view mark of 2.45M units sold for Mayweather-De La Hoya in 2007.
The whole world would be watching.
Mayweather is constantly taunting Pac-man to the media, with the latest example being the floating rumors about how “Money May” is ready to fight Pacquiao next May. This is convenient considering the Pacquiao-Maquez fight is mere days away.
When people speak of either Mayweather or Paquiao, the conversation usually holds a “yeah he’s amazing, but…” and that “but” is he hasn’t faced the only real competition to jeopardize a legendary career.
The only way to settle the fighter of the decade, the only way to shut everyone up, the only way to sort out the questions of the entire world it the finally have this fight.
Until then it’s still just a bunch of “yeah but’s” when referring to their careers.
