Pacquiao vs. Marquez: Why Mayweather Will Have His Money on Pacquiao
Just a couple days away from Manny Pacquiao's defense of his previous and controversial split-decision win over Juan Manuel Marquez, one thing is to be certain: We all know Floyd Mayweather Jr. will be watching.
We can also be sure that Mayweather will be a big Pacquiao supporter, at least this time around.
Mayweather adviser Leonard Ellerbe made Mayweather's wishes known, according to ESPN.com. Those wishes were to return to the ring May 5, 2012 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada and to have it be the biggest fight possible.
That, of course, would be a bout with Manny Pacquiao. For that fight to be the "biggest fight possible," Pacquiao would certainly be coming off a win and with the WBO Welterweight title in hand and on the line.
If Pacquiao were to lose to Marquez on Saturday, a Pacquiao-Mayweather fight on May 5 would still garner itself as the biggest fight possible, but it would not be as big as it could have been.
If Mayweather truly wants to fight Manny Pacquiao on May 5, or ever, he will want it to be for the full bounty of titles and bragging rights. If Pacquiao loses to Marquez, he may not be as willing to fight Mayweather himself. A loss could cause more ripples and hurdles to a Mayweather-Pacquiao fight than there already are, and may cause it to never happen.
So, if one thing is to be certain, Floyd Mayweather Jr. will want Manny Pacquiao to win this fight to give him a chance at one of the biggest pay-days professional boxing or sports in general has ever seen.
