Pacquiao vs Marquez: 3 Most Probable Next Opponents
In sports, the worst thing you can ever do is overlook your current opponent. This is especially true when that current opponent has already given you two very tough fights.
But I'll let a secret out about myself right now. Brace yourself, this is a big one.
I am not Manny Pacquiao. I am not Pacquiao, nor am I am member of his camp.
So, after Saturday night, who should we be expecting Manny Pacquiao to square off with. There are no shortage of names out there who Pacquiao could technically lock up with.
But for now, let's take a look at three of the more likely, more attractive candidates.
Victor Ortiz
I'll be quite honest with you, this match intrigues me in a pretty good way. Unlike the other two men listed below, Ortiz is younger than than Pacquiao. Actually, he's significantly younger than Pacquiao.
Ring ranks Ortiz as the third-best welterweight in the world. Pacquiao is No. 1, and we'll get to No. 2 in a little while.
The way that Ortiz lost to Floyd Mayweather gives him a big, intriguing name. More than an actual good fight, that's what you need in boxing.
While I would go with Pacquiao to win this fight, it would be a nice changing of the guard moment in the sport.
Sergio Martinez
Pound-for-pound, Martinez is ranked by Ring as the No. 3 fighter in the world. Again, Pacquiao is one. Again, we'll get to No. 2 in a minute.
Martinez is not unlike Juan Manuel Marquez, although they have never fought. Martinez is a big name with a great record that would bring credibility to the fight.
Being from Argentina, the international media would be out in full force for this fight.
Still, as great as Martinez would be, as great as Ortiz would be, they do not compare to the next man.
Floyd Mayweather Jr.
If this fight ever goes off without one of these two men losing between now and then, then it will take hype to a brand new level.
This fight has absolutely everything that anyone can want. The players are polarizing and both have unquestioned brilliant resumes.
The bottom line is that the grumblings for this fight will be there until it actually happens. With no disrespect to any other fighter, no match will have the overall appeal of Manny Pacquiao vs. Floyd Mayweather.
