Does Manny Pacquiao Really Want to Fight Floyd Mayweather?

Brandon GalvinNov 10, 2011

Manny Pacquiao wants no part of Floyd Mayweather Jr..

Ever.

He can go on Jimmy Kimmel Live all he wants and spout at the mouth about being willing to accept a "winner-take-all" fight, but it’s as clear as day he doesn’t want to step inside the squared circle with "Money."

It was evident last week when Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum said that Mayweather’s claims at a May 5th fight are a joke.

Please, don’t give me the garbage that Arum and Pac-Man don’t want to "give in" to Mayweather’s promotional tactics. Don’t give me the crap that they don’t want to feed in to Mayweather.

The reason Mayweather’s claim is a joke is not because of the due date, but because Arum and his client are scared to step into the ring with Mayweather. Right now, they are trying to play the holier-than-thou card. They try to make Pacquiao look like a saint compared to Mayweather.

Nah ah. Not me. Not buying it.

Mayweather is the villain—always has been, always will be. We all know that, but don’t give me this trash that Pac-Man is so high and mighty compared to Money.

Unlike his delusional fans, Pacquiao knows deep down inside that he won’t beat Mayweather. He won’t be able to penetrate Mayweather’s guard to knock him out, which means Money will inevitably win by decision.

Mayweather is the best tactical fighter in the sport. He’s a cerebral assassin. Pac-Man can’t match him technically, and it would be his eventual downfall in the bout as he becomes increasingly frustrated with Mayweather.

Right now, Pac-Man skates by on thin ice claiming to be the best pound-for-pound fighter to ever throw on a pair of gloves.

Pac-Man doesn’t want a fight with Mayweather because his goodie-goodie image feeds the fire that he’s the greatest ever. His fans eat it up.

Pac-Man and his fans can use the excuse that since he was never beaten by Mayweather—because they never fought—that the debate is open for Pacquiao to be called the best ever. If he loses to Mayweather, which he would, the argument is thrown out the window. He will never be able to call himself the greatest. His fans won’t have any excuse to hang their hat on.

Pacquiao and Arum understand image is everything. It’s all they have in today’s era, as Mayweather openly promotes himself and thrives on the negativity. He has no issue boasting himself and backing it up in the ring by any means necessary.

Pac-Man lets his fans make the claim because he knows deep down he is eluding the one man who would beat him in one way or another.

Mayweather isn’t afraid to step in the ring with Pacquiao because he has less to lose. He’ll still beat his own chest—win, lose or draw—claiming to be the best.

Pac-Man? Pacquiao is done when he loses to Mayweather. He loses his credibility, absurd greatest pound-for-pound moniker and everything he built in his career.

Manny Pacquiao doesn’t want any piece of Floyd Mayweather Jr..
