NFL Week 10 Picks: Gauging the Least Likely Upset Scenarios

Andrea HangstNov 9, 2011

If history is any indicator, an underdog will overcome its supposedly superior opponent this week and notch an unlikely win. However, three Week 10 games are just so lopsided that the upset won't come for these unfavored teams.

Let's start first with the least likely team to pull out a victory this week, the Minnesota Vikings. They face the Green Bay Packers on Monday night, their second meeting of the year.

In the teams' first contest, the Vikings gave the Packers quite a fight, eventually dropping to the undefeated Super Bowl champions, 33-27.

Green Bay still has issues in the secondary, and thus, they keep giving up big plays and numerous touchdowns, but that doesn't mean that the Vikings will somehow beat their rivals this week.

A strong defense is the most obvious reason why the Baltimore Ravens will defeat the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday, but it's not the only one.

If the Ravens can keep up the type of aerial production they managed against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 9, they should have no trouble defeating the Seahawks despite having to travel westward to one of the loudest stadiums in the NFL.

The Seahawks defense, supposedly stronger against the run than versus the pass, was decimated by the Dallas Cowboys and running back DeMarco Murray last week. This week, they'll see the Ravens' Ray Rice, and it should be more of the same.

Even if Baltimore doesn't repeat their offensive showing from Week 9, there's little chance that Seattle's offense can manage much production against the league's top defense.

If quarterback Kevin Kolb were under center this week for the Arizona Cardinals as they travel to Philadelphia to play his former team, the Eagles, they may have a better chance

But with Kolb out and John Skelton starting yet again, and with the team's leading rusher, Beanie Wells, limited with a knee injury, it will be hard for the team to have any luck against an Eagles team guaranteed to be playing angry on Sunday.

Philadelphia was thoroughly embarrassed by the Chicago Bears last Monday night by fielding a porous defense and making a number of mistakes on offense. The problems once thought to be behind the team reared their ugly heads yet again in a game that the Eagles could have—and should have—won.

So it stands to reason that the team is searching for a punching bag upon which they can take out their considerable frustration and rage, and the 2-6 Cardinals, with their 27th-ranked offense and 30th-ranked defense, have drawn that unlucky lot.
