ESPN Films Roll Tide War Eagle: Football Profile in Alabama Will Only Get Bigger

Michael DixonNov 8, 2011

How exactly did we get to this point? Alabama, a relatively small state, has produced the last two Heisman Trophy winners and national champions.

Although Alabama did lose to LSU on Saturday, it's not out of the realm of possibility that we'll get three for three this year with the Crimson Tide and Trent Richardson.

So, how did this happen? Well, the reputation that Alabama built under Bear Bryant had a lot to do with it. But looking back doesn't do us any good.

How in the world can college football in the state of Alabama, specifically between Alabama and Auburn, get any better?

Well, we're about to find out.

Tonight at 8 PM EST, ESPN will air Roll Tide/War Eagle. Obviously, it hasn't aired yet so nobody knows exactly what it will be about. But basically, we're going to get a nice in depth look at the rivalry between Alabama and Auburn.

But ESPN's 30 for 30 series was immensely popular, and the new series produced by ESPN has followed in its footsteps.

Imagine being a high school recruit. Auburn and Alabama are on television virtually every week, right? Well, yes. But if you're a big enough recruit, just about any school going after you will have similar exposure.

But do they have hour long specials made about them?

Do they have hour long specials that spotlight how loyal and passionate the fans at each school are? Do they have specials that profile a long list of NFL talent?

Well, with the exception of Miami, probably not. And in terms of productivity in recent years, Alabama and Auburn have Miami dwarfed.

Is it a provable idea? Not necessarily, but ask yourselves some questions.

How do teams get even more exposure? Winning. How do you win? Well, having the best players helps. How do you get those players to your school? Exposure. It's a pretty nice little cycle.

The state of Alabama doesn't need much help. If it needs anything, it's about to come in a big way. Heck, even if it doesn't need any help, the profile is about to get much bigger.
