Texas A&M Football: Aggies Suffer Huge Blow with Injury to Christine Michael
The Texas A&M Football Team suffered yet another major blow when it was announced today that junior running back Christine Michael would miss the rest of the season with a torn anterior cruciate ligament.
Michael suffered the injury during the Aggies 41-25 loss to Oklahoma.
This is the second year in a row that Michael has had his season cut short by injury. Last year Michael broke his leg in a game against Texas Tech in Lubbock. Michael is the Aggies leading rusher with 899 yards and eight touchdowns through nine games.
When Michael went down in 2010 fellow running back Cyrus Gray stepped up his play and proceeded to run for over 100 yards in seven consecutive games. The Aggies will need Gray to step up again with games against Kansas State, Kansas and Texas remaining on the schedule.
The injury is a big blow to an Aggies offense that has been inconsistent on the field this year. The Aggies are 5-4 on the year. In the Aggies four losses they have failed to score a single point in the third quarter. Michael averaged six yards per carry and teamed with Gray to give A&M one of the top running back duos in the nation.
The Aggies have struggled with injuries all year. Starting defensive end Jonathan Mathis was lost for the season to a knee injury against Oklahoma State. Defensive backs Stephen Campbell and Coryell Judie have both missed multiple games with leg injuries.
Michael will have surgery on his knee when the swelling goes down and will then start rehab. He will return for his senior season next year when the Aggies play their first season in the Southeastern Conference.
