BCS Standings: Predicting the Top 5 After Alabama's Loss to LSU
After No. 2 Alabama's 9-6 loss to No. 1 LSU and No. 3 Oklahoma State's 52-45 win over No. 14 Kansas State the new BCS rankings are going to look quite a bit different than they did last week.
The new BCS rankings will be unveiled Sunday evening, and it will be interesting to see where the Crimson Tide are ranked.
Let's predict the top 5 of the Week 11 BCS Rankings.
1. LSU
The top-ranked LSU Tigers will maintain their place atop the BCS standings after a massive 9-6 win in overtime against SEC rival Alabama.
The Tigers have beaten six ranked teams this season, and the hardest game remaining on their schedule before a possible berth in the SEC Championship game is against the No. 7 Arkansas Razorbacks at the end of the regular season.
There is zero chance the Tigers fall from the top spot unless they lose.
2. Oklahoma State
The Cowboys survived a thrilling game against the No. 14 Kansas State Wildcats on Saturday night when they escaped with a 52-45 win.
The Wildcats had a chance to tie at the end with the ball inside the 10 yard line with under 10 seconds remaining and could not score a touchdown.
Oklahoma State will move ahead of Alabama after the Crimson Tide's loss, and the Cowboys lone remaining game of difficulty will be against rival No. 7 Oklahoma on December 3 at home.
3. Stanford
The Stanford Cardinal followed up their thrilling triple overtime win against USC last week with a good performance against Oregon State in a 38-13 victory.
Stanford will move up to third in the new BCS rankings, but that place will be tested next week when they host No. 8 Oregon in a game that will likely determine the BCS fates of both teams.
Andrew Luck's Heisman Trophy test will come next week, but for now the Cardinal are safely into third.
4. Alabama
The Crimson Tide were beaten by the best team in the country by three points in overtime, so moving too far down in the rankings should not be a real concern for Alabama.
Going into Week 10 Alabama was a full tenth of a point ahead of Boise State in the BCS standings, and for the Crimson Tide to be punished too harshly for being the best team in the country would be a travesty.
Even if they fall past the Broncos in the new BCS standings, Alabama will have opportunities to still pass them because they need to play Auburn still and possibly a SEC title game.
5. Boise State
The Broncos are 8-0 and ranked No. 5 in the country. They beat UNLV 48-21 on Saturday, and have not played anyone good except Georgia in the season's opening week.
Boise State is a good team but they haven't played enough quality opponents to be ahead of a one-loss Alabama.
