LSU vs. Alabama: 5 Key Plays That Turned the Game
In "The Game of the Century," the LSU Tigers and the Alabama Crimson Tide gave us a slugfest that featured some big hits and missed field goals.
Alabama ended up missing four that could've given them a shot to win in regulation, but the interception by Eric Reid on the goal line was a game-changing play that gave LSU a shot to win in overtime.
Some questions remain as to where exactly Alabama will drop in the BCS Standings, however LSU is a clear cut top ranked team with their victory in Tuscaloosa.
Which five plays made the biggest impact on the outcome?
Opening Drive Turns into Missed Field Goal for Crimson Tide
1 of 5Alabama took the ball and drove right down the field and had a field goal set up on the sixth play of the drive.
Cade Foster just needed to connect on a 44-yarder to give Alabama a quick 3-0 lead right out of the gates. Instead, one missed field goal eventually led to four missed field goals in the biggest game of the season.
Brad Wing Boots It 73 Yards out of His End Zone
2 of 5The Bayou Bengals were pinned all the way back in their end zone, and there was just nine minutes left in regulation. The game was tied at 6-6, and Alabama was expected to get excellent field position.
Instead, Brad Wing kicked it 73 yards all the way to Alabama's 19-yard line!
Alabama eventually got to mid-field, but was forced to punt and the game eventually went into overtime.
Had Wing perhaps hit it off the side of his foot, the Crimson Tide more than likely would have found a way to win the game in regulation (if their kicker made a field goal for once).
AJ McCarron Takes Huge Sack, Cade Foster Misses Again
3 of 5Alabama had a chance to strike first in overtime (since they had the ball first), but AJ McCarron took a gigantic sack at the worst time possible.
Cade Foster then missed his third field goal, this time officially putting them in a losing situation. Five plays later, Drew Alleman proved he was the best kicker in the stadium after he drilled a 25-yarder right down the middle.
Jefferson Pitches to Michael Ford To Set Up Game-Winning Field Goal
4 of 5With the way this game was turning out, who knows if LSU would have made a kick from 40-plus yards out.
Instead, Jordan Jefferson played great and made an excellent pitch to Michael Ford, who nearly took it the house for the game-winner.
Drew Alleman then took care of business, and the Tigers remained the top ranked team in the nation.
Eric Reid Make the Pick of the Century, or Did He?
5 of 5LSU stud safety Eric Reid picked off a pass from Marquis Maze, in which Alabama tight end Michael Williams looked like he had caught the ball at the goal line.
As the crowd and sideline of Alabama went bonkers, they realized that LSU had the ball. Reid intercepted the pass and they were in the process of going down.
Did Reid intercept the pass? Or did he just rip it away from Williams when they came down? I have watched the replay a hundred times, but I still can't tell when Reid had taken the ball away.
Regardless, this play had the largest impact of the game, since Alabama would have had at least three points more on the board, and perhaps seven more had they found the end zone.
Alabama could have won had they not missed a thousand field goals, but it certainly would of helped if they been able to haul in that pass from Maze.
Instead, the landscape of college football took a wide turn, and now we shall see how far Alabama drops.
