Pacquiao vs. Marquez: Doping Controversy Will Explode If Marquez Upsets Pac-Man
There are typically a few things fans and talking heads can agree on for nearly every fight.
Whether it be on a fighter's speed, another fighter's strength, another fighter's strength and speed; there are simply undeniable truths when it comes to boxing.
The one thing that nearly everyone believes in the third installment of Manny Pacquiao vs. Juan Manuel Marquez is that Pac-Man will win. His combination of speed, power and comfort at this weight will be tough for Marquez to handle.
It is true that the world's pound-for-pound No. 1 fighter has not put the veteran on the canvas, but he's done a lot more since the last time these two fought.
Pacquiao isn't the same fighter he once was. He's faster, stronger, tougher, smarter and downright better than he ever was before.
When Marquez first feels the power of Pac-Man's right hand, he'll quickly realize that everything everyone has said is true.
But that alone won't be enough to defeat the stubborn Mexican. Although it is a long shot, there is still a chance for an upset.
Should that transpire, and Pacquiao lose for the first time since 2005, there will undoubtedly be a doping scandal outcry.
The New York Daily News ran an article identifying Juan Manuel Marquez's new conditioning coach as the same man who supplied performance-enhancing drugs to both Marion Jones and Tim Montgomery.
According to the News:
"His new conditioning coach, Angel Hernandez, has been identified as Angel (Memo) Heredia ... Hernandez was hiding in plain sight, although he had changed his last name while working with Marquez at his training camp in Mexico. (Victor) Conte recognized Hernandez on a recent episode of HBO’s boxing reality show 24/7: Pacquiao-Marquez.
"
Conte, the man behind the BALCO operation, said, "He (Hernandez) supplied documents and testimony that were damaging to many athletes. As a result, Heredia received leniency and walked away from the case a free man."
The same cannot be said of Conte who now works with bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire, a fellow countryman of Pacquiao's.
Juan Manuel Marquez, notorious for drinking his own urine during preparation for his eventual loss to Floyd Mayweather Jr., will not escape this fight without controversy.
Should the unthinkable happen, and Marquez defeat Pac-Man, expect the fight's outcome to be just one of the many headlines for the next several months in the boxing world.
