LSU vs. Alabama: Tigers' Dual-QB System Will Come Back To Haunt Them
It is rarely seen in the sport of football that you can win with a dual-QB strategy. Sure, there are some teams that can pull it off—Florida with Tim Tebow, for example—but it isn’t often that it can be done.
This year’s LSU team is no exception. Jarrett Lee has been the starter all season long and Jordan Jefferson was the starter in previous years. This brings an interesting dilemma for head coach Les Miles.
If any coach can handle this situation, it is Miles. He seems to have a great rapport and chemistry with his players. Even with the most difficult of scenarios, Miles will put his team in the best situation as possible.
However, I don’t think this combination is like others we have seen. We have seen other teams with clear reasons, packages for their backup quarterbacks. Miles will bring in Jefferson if things aren’t going correctly. This isn’t something that seems correct.
Either Jefferson should have been named the starter or he should have been strictly limited to a goal-line package.
LSU needs a clear-cut offensive leader, and having two quarterbacks doesn’t give them that. If anything it leaves them questioning who they are supposed to turn to when things get rough.
When things got rough against Alabama, who knew which guy Miles was going to turn to? It was a pressure-packed situation and you don’t even know who the quarterback will be under center on the next possession.
This strategy will hurt the Tigers in the end game. Pick one quarterback and have the team trust him collectively.
