Purdue vs. Wisconsin: 5 Halftime Adjustments the Boilermakers Must Make
We should be in for an interesting finish today as the Purdue Boilermakers take on the Wisconsin Badgers at Camp Randall Stadium.
Coach Danny Hope and the Boilermakers are looking to own the underdog role and further diminish the BCS bowl dreams of Russell Wilson and the Badgers.
Here are five halftime adjustments Purdue must make if it wants to comeback and complete this huge B1G upset.
First to the Point of Attack
In the second half, Purdue must beat the Badgers to the point of attack. RB Montee Ball leads the FBS in touchdowns and shows no sign of slowing down for the remainder of the game.
If the Boilermakers want to win, they need to keep aggressive defensive-line pressure and beat the Badgers to the hole.
Control the Tempo
Purdue needs to control the tempo in the second half.
The team has had the most success when QB Caleb Terbush is able to run the hurry-up and dictate the offensive pace. Purdue needs more of this in the final two quarters to keep the Badgers' defense on their toes.
Capitalize
Purdue needs to take advantage of Wisconsin's mistakes. The Boilermakers were unable to punch the ball in from the Badgers' 3-yard line following a huge return from Raheem Mostert.
Similarly, Purdue recovered a Russell Wilson fumble only to throw a pick on the following possession. If they want any hope for a comeback, the Boilermakers need to make the most out every gift the Badgers give them.
Step Up Red Zone Defense
The Badgers have one of the best red-zone offenses in the nation.
In the second half, Purdue needs to dial up the intensity and bring heavy pressure on Wilson. It's important the Boilermakers step up in the red zone and hold Wisconsin to field goals near the goal line.
Stop the Big Play
The Boilermakers need to make sure they contain the big hit in the second half.
Wisconsin has already been able to break off massive gains from Ball and Jeff Duckworth, which brought the Badgers near the goal line. Purdue must to make the first tackle and keep the big play contained if it wants any chance of a comeback.
