Purdue vs. Wisconsin: 5 Halftime Adjustments the Badgers Should Make
We should be in for a great finish today as the No. 20 Wisconsin Badgers take on the Purdue Boilermakers at Camp Randall Stadium. Looking to rebound from two heartbreaking last-second losses, the Badgers and QB Russell Wilson are hoping to get back on track and continue their success vs. Purdue.
With this big lead, Wisconsin has looked great thus far, but here are five halftime changes the Badgers should consider for the second half.
Special Teams
The Badgers NEED to step up their kick return coverage in the second half. They have already been burned by two huge returns from Raheem Mostert, which quickly negated any momentum from their previous touchdowns. If Wisconsin can't put the lid on Purdue's returns, look for this game to be far too close for comfort.
Follow Lead Blocks
The Badgers offense has done a solid job getting to the next level with their blocks. Many of RB Montee Ball's long runs have come when he was able to follow his lead blocker into the next level of Purdue's defense. A strong O-Line push in the second half should give Wisconsin's RBs plenty of chances for huge gains.
Don't Sleep on Purdue
The Badgers need to put Purdue away early in the second half. The B1G has been filled with a number of huge upsets today and Wisconsin cannot afford a third straight loss. The Badgers must make sure they don't sleep on the Boilermakers and keep up the intensity for the rest of the game.
Play-Action Big Hit
Expect the Badgers to continue to deliver a heavy dose of RB Montee Ball in the second half. With Ball's success on the ground, Wisconsin should have an opportunity to run play-action and look for either Nick Toon or Jared Abbrederis for a huge gain.
Keep Up the Balance
This is an obvious one, but the Badgers' balance has been the key to their offensive success. Purdue's defense has not been able to get a hold on either Wilson or Ball because Wisconsin has done such a solid job of delivering the run-pass combo. As long as the Badgers offense stays balanced, I don't see any way the Boilermakers can get stops.
