2011 Breeders' Cup Entries: Havre De Grace Will Be Surprise Winner
Everyone who is putting a wager onto this year’s Breeders’ Cup is putting it on the 5/2 favorite Uncle Mo. However, the real wager should be put onto 3/1 favorite, Havre de Grace.
The filly is trying to become the second female horse to win the Classic, as Zenyatta is the only filly that has won the classic before. It is a feat that is hard to pull off, but if there is a perfect female horse to win, it is Havre de Grace.
According to Racing Daily Form, Havre de Grace has won five times in six starts this year and already has wrapped up the Eclipse Award as champion older female. A win here makes her Horse of the Year.
“She should settle mid-pack,” Jones said. “Game On Dude and Uncle Mo should be up there, and To Honor and Serve. Hopefully we can draft behind them, and then get first run on Flat Out. I think she’ll get a good, clear run.”
So why would you put your money on the odds-on favorite, Uncle Mo, who is coming off of a bad liver, over the horse that is about to become the Horse of the Year?
But for those of you that are still skeptical about putting money on Havre de Grace, we offer you this: Havre de Grace is being trained by the great Larry Jones, who a year ago wasn’t even training any horses.
Also, Havre de Grace has beaten the other male horses before, and looks like she is up for the task again.
Havre de Grace started six times last year and finished in the money in all six, with two wins. Havre de Grace’s worst finish was third in the year's biggest race for horses like Havre de Grace, the Breeders' Cup Ladies Classic.
In 2011, Havre de Grace has continued her dominance, winning five of six races. Her only loss, was in a close race to Blind Luck in the Delaware Handicap at Delaware Park in July.
If you are looking to put money on a great wager, go for Havre de Grace at 3/1. The filly is racing for history, as she will live out her destiny as the second female horse to win the Breeders’ Cup.
