2011 Breeders' Cup: Uncle Mo Will Prove His Worth After Liver Illness
Uncle Mo is the horse to watch at the 2011 Breeders' Cup and will look to prove his worth on the big stage after a liver illness prevented him from making a run at a historic triple crown earlier this year.
An encouraging sign for Uncle Mo was his good workout leading up to the Breeders' Cup.
Trying to get his speed up for the longer tracks is a task the people working with him are looking at right now, and so far his speed looks pretty good.
His trainer, Todd Pletcher, said the following after a good Sunday morning workout:
"We didn’t set out to go quite that fast, it’s just an indication of how well he’s doing at the moment. It’s not like he was being asked to do it. We’re trying to get a horse fit to go a mile and a quarter with a seven-eighths and a mile race under his belt. We got to make sure we do enough. I think we made a big step in that direction today.
"
His last race was a victory at Grade 2 Kelso Stakes at Belmont Park back on October 1, and the workout on Sunday was his first since that impressive victory.
Uncle Mo's trainer and staff have done well to get him in decent shape leading up to a major horse racing event.
Uncle Mo is certainly a favorite to win the events he races in and is a smart horse to bet on at the Breeders' Cup.
Being able to recover from a liver injury and regaining a lot of the pace he had before that made him hard to beat is impressive, and Uncle Mo looks like a horse determined to show he is the real deal.
