Pacquiao vs. Mayweather: Empty Promises and Cheap Talk Won't Make Fight Reality
Mayweather vs. Pacquiao rumors are swirling about after team Mayweather announced that Floyd Mayweather wasn't just looking to get back in the ring—he was looking for the biggest fight possible. Unfortunately, this elusive dream matchup will never become a reality.
We all know the story. This fight has been in limbo since November 2009. It's on, it's off, it's back on, it's going to happen. Shoulda, coulda, woulda.
It's been said that there was too much money on the table for the fighters to pass up this fight. Mayweather pointed to Pacquiao's reluctance to take a blood test as the reason the fight fell through.
It's always something, and frankly, everyone is tired of waiting. Even worse than the waiting around is thinking the fight is ago, getting our hopes up and coming to the painful realization that the fight isn't going to happen all over again.
This fight isn't happening—not in 2012, not in two years, not ever.
The window for this fight to happen is closing. This last-ditch effort to make the fight happen is taking away from Pacquiao vs. Marquez, which is a travesty.
People need to quit buying into the noise. The pipe dreams, the promises, the projections—it's all bogus. If the fighters finally go toe-to-toe, that's when the paranoia and doubt can be pushed to the wayside.
Until that time, it's safe to reject everything you hear, see or read about this fight becoming a reality. We've danced around this topic for years now. Why all of a sudden the change of heart? Pacquiao agreed to a blood test? Mayweather changed his mind?
It's all smoke and mirrors. Enjoy seeing these fighters take on other promising challengers. Allowing this distraction to take away from tangible fights that are actually happening will only lead to more anticlimactic disappointment.
