NFL Picks Week 9: Buccaneers and Teams That Will Prove ESPN 'Experts' Wrong

Alex KayNov 3, 2011

Each week ESPN employs a panel of NFL experts along with the Accuscore computer projection to predict the winner of each game.

They generally do a pretty good job picking games straight up but occasionally they all agree on a team that I just don’t think will win, let alone cover the spread.

If you are using their predictions to pick your winners this week, be leery of these games, because they could easily go the other way.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers over New Orleans Saints

The experts unanimously went with the Saints here and I’m not quite sure why.

The Bucs have dominated in their previous two matchups with the Saints, including a game played just a few weeks ago on Oct. 16.

They also play very well in domes, already 1-0 this season and 4-2 over the last three.

Against the spread this is an absolute lock, as they are 6-0 ATS in domes and 7-1 in dome games over that three-year span.

Definitely take these guys on the point spread and look for them to be a sleeper moneyline upset.

Chicago Bears over Philadelphia Eagles

Chicago beat the Eagles last time they played in November of last year and the Bears always seem to play Michael Vick tough.

The experts have unanimously chosen the Eagles to win that game and I don’t think it’ll be that easy for them.

If Chicago gets going early and starts pound the ball down the weak Eagles’ rush defense's throat, it’s going to be a long day for them on that side of the ball.

This should be a low-scoring affair that I can see the Bears winning in the trenches and grinding out the win.

Baltimore Ravens over Pittsburgh Steelers

Did everyone forget that the Ravens exposed the Steelers in Week 1?

It seems only Ron Jaworski remembered, as he was the only expert to pick the Ravens.

Vegas has the Steelers as a slight 3.5-point favorite, basically for home field advantage.

While the Ravens have looked soft the last two games and the Steelers have rolled, this game throws all conventional wisdom out the window and you should not factor in recent performance.

These teams hate each other and it is going to be a bloodbath on Sunday. Anyone could win.
