Pacquiao vs. Marquez: Why Motivated Juan Manuel Still Can't Overcome Pac-Man
Surprise. Surprise. The Nov. 12 fight between WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez is now personal.
The two boxers have met twice before, and Marquez isn't content with how the last two bouts ended.
According to a piece in the Philippine Daily Inquirer by Francis T.J. Ochoa, Marquez is extremely motivated by the results of the last two fights with Pacquiao.
"“We are not the only ones who felt that we won the other two fights. We are prepared to win this one as well.” - Juan Manuel Marquez
"
The first meeting between the two resulted in a split draw, much to the chagrin of both Pacquiao and Marquez, while the second matchup went to the Pac-Man via a split decision.
Both results were controversial, and could have easily belonged to Marquez, in his eyes at least.
Still, it seems almost impossible to bet against the 32-year-old Pacquiao this time around as well.
Marquez is 38, and does not come close to matching the speed and power of Pacquiao.
With the potential of an earth-shaking matchup with Floyd Mayweather Jr. beginning to surface, there is simply too much at stake for Pac-Man to come up short against an aging rival.
The two have yet to go any less than all 12 rounds, but remember that the last time they met was in 2008, when Marquez was just 34.
Pacquiao is in his prime, and alone atop the boxing world with Mayweather at the moment.
The great past between the two make this fight more anticipated than it actually should be, but isn't that always the case.
Sorry Marquez, no amount of motivation in the world can save you from Manny's left.
