NFL Week 9 Predictions: 4 QBs Good for 300+ Passing Yards

John RozumNov 2, 2011

Although a QB accumulating more than 300 passing yards in a game isn't that uncommon anymore, it's still very impressive to say the least.

Think about how much more the NFL has become a passing league and yet, how many QBs have thrown for over 4,800 yards—300 yards per game—in a season?  It just proves that performing on that level consistently is very difficult to achieve.

In any event, here are four QBs who will toss for over 300 yards in Week  9.

Matt Ryan, Falcons (at Colts)

The Colts may allow almost 260 pass yards per game, but Matt Ryan has the Falcons offense only averaging about 220 pass yards per game. So although the odds appear to be against Ryan hitting 300, it won't be too difficult as the Colts also have trouble stopping the run.

In turn, Ryan uses the play-action very effectively and it opens up some screen passes at the same time. Not to mention rookie WR Julio Jones may be back to help give Ryan another target, according to Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

This could be a big week for Matt Ryan fantasy owners.

Matt Schaub, Texans (vs Browns)

Despite having been without WR Andre Johnson, Texans QB Matt Schaub has played better than expected. And although he's only hit over 300 once since Johnson went down, he'll do just that this week against Cleveland,

Now yes, the Browns do have a stout pass defense, but with a solid ground game in Houston against a weak Cleveland rush defense, the passing game will have less pressure and be setup nicely.

In addition, Cleveland has yet to face a passing offense of such stature.  If you have Kevin Walter in fantasy, he may be a viable start this week.

Tony Romo, Cowboys (vs Seahawks)

The inconsistency in Dallas continues, but since they had a bad game last week, that means this week should be good, right?

Well, the Cowboys do play much better at home and are going against a Seattle defense that does not match up with any of Tony Romo's targets. Seattle is also the No. 18 pass defense going against the No. 7 pass offense in Dallas, so Big D does have that edge.

Perhaps the motivation factor helps here also, because Romo and the 'Boys desperately need a win this week and Seattle is four games back of San Fran in the NFC West. Hence, Dallas has something to play for whereas the Seahawks do not.

Drew Brees, Saints (vs Buccaneers)

When these two teams met in Tampa a few weeks ago, Saints QB Drew Brees tossed for over 380 yards, but only had one TD compared to three picks. So, we know Brees is capable of slicing the Bucs despite being prone to tossing INTs.

This time around though, New Orleans is the home team and it's a straight battle of strength vs weakness. Tampa is a weak road team and New Orleans rarely loses at home. And even if the Bucs manage to pick off Brees a couple of times, he's going to air it out regardless.

Therefore, anticipate Brees compiling over 300 and don't be surprised if he nears 400 against Tampa once again. Their defense is still young and learning (other than Ronde Barber), so Brees will exploit that in the Superdome.
