College Football Week 10: 5 Teams on Upset Alert
Possibly the thing I love most about college football is that upsets do actually happen, and that usually creates seismic changes in the polls.
This week, we have six teams that should be putting in a little extra work in practice because they are on my upset alert.
I will be grading each team's chance of being upset on the following scale:
Red: This team should be extremely afraid because there is an incredibly large chance they will not walk out of the stadium with a win.
Orange: This team should be prepared for a battle but should walk away with a victory.
Yellow: There is a chance that this team goes down but most likely it won't happen. They shouldn't, however, treat the game as a cake walk.
No. 1 LSU @ No. 2 Alabama
1 of 5The game of the week between the top two teams in the nation shouldn't really count as an upset, but I'm gonna make an exception because I think LSU is going to lose.
The Tigers travel to Tuscaloosa. and there is a good chance that Les Miles and his team will lose.
Alabama can match LSU on defense but they have much more talent on offense behind Heisman contender Trent Richardson, possibly one of the greatest running backs in the nation, and that is coming from a die-hard Oregon/LaMichael James fan.
For the Tigers to win, they will have to control the clock and limit AJ McCarron.
Upset Alert: Red
No. 3 Oklahoma State vs No. 14 Kansas State
2 of 5Oklahoma State has quite possibly one of the most dominant teams in the nation this year, outscoring opponents by an average of 23.25 points per game.
Hosting a still competitive Kansas State team, despite being routed by Oklahoma, the Cowboys should treat this game as one of their most important games of the season.
To win, Oklahoma State will have to shut down the Wildcats running game and force Calvin Klein to pass the ball.
The Cowboys especially have the most to gain this week with a matchup between the top two teams in the nation.
Upset Alert: Orange
No. 4 Stanford @ Oregon State
3 of 5And there is the bombshell.
Yes, Stanford is on upset alert, and before you go cursing me and calling me a jealous Oregon fan, continue to read what I have to say.
Flashback to 2008 when USC was ranked first in the nation. A routine game at Oregon State gave USC their first loss and really spelled doom for the USC program.
Stanford enters this week with the same chance of being upset as USC did.
Yes this year's Beavers team is a lot worse than the one in 2008, but it could easily happen. Reeser Stadium is a surprisingly tough environment, and if Andrew Luck were to go down, Oregon State could pull away with a win.
Upset Alert: Yellow
No. 8 Oregon @ Washington
4 of 5Happy now Cardinal fans?
Oregon too enters this week on upset alert, and a much higher one.
The Huskies are not the same team that they have been recently and will try and build off of their home crowd to try and play underdog to the Ducks.
Oregon is going to have to play big up front to try and stop Chris Polk and then contain Keith Price without Cliff Harris.
Upset Alert: Red
No. 15 Michigan @ Iowa
5 of 5Though the Hawkeyes are not ranked at this point, they are still one of the more competitive teams in the Big Ten.
Denard Robinson has not yet shown us what he did last year wasn't a fluke.
The Wolverines will need to score fast and keep the game out of hand early on to prevent an Iowa comeback and stay competitive in the Big Ten.
