LSU vs. Alabama: Tigers and Crimson Tide Will Give Us the Game of the Year
This may be the game that decides who is headed to the BCS Championship Game and who gets left behind.
LSU, led by one of the nation's stingiest defenses, a surprisingly effective quarterback in Jarrett Lee and a solid rushing attack, is the No. 1 team in the country and head coach Les Miles is a top candidate for Coach of the Year.
Alabama, No. 2 in the country, may have the nation's best defense, allowing an unbelievable 6.9 points per game despite playing in the SEC. The Crimson Tide are allowing the fewest passing yards per game (180.0) and the fewest yards per carry (1.7) in the FBS.
They also have star running back Trent Richardson, who is largely being projected as an elite prospect in the NFL, a capable quarterback in A.J. McCarron and a rising receiver/return man in Marquis Maze.
And they have Nick Saban, who I consider to be the best head coach in college football.
It's almost a shame that one of these teams may get kicked out of the title game with a loss on Saturday. It's hard not to call them the two best teams in college football.
This is what college football is all about, folks: two elite programs going head-to-head for the potential rights to the title game.
It's all going to be on the line at Bryant-Denny Stadium, in front of a packed house of screaming Crimson Tides fans, and plenty of Tigers fans, as well.
Ever since the Tigers knocked off Oregon in their first game of the season, many of us have had this date circled, knowing full well that it could determine who makes it to the big game.
We've seen a slew of tremendous games so far this college football season, plenty of upsets and plenty of dominating performances.
But this will prove to be the Game of the Year, and it couldn't come soon enough.
