World Football Transfer Rumours: 5 Possible Destinations for Roman Pavlyuchenko
Roman Pavlyuchenko's time in the English Premier League is most certainly at an end.
Just days ago he admitted he wants out after losing the battle with Harry Redknapp. He fears he won't be selected for Euro 2012 if he continues enduring limited playing time at White Hart Lane.
So who amongst you needs a striker who has undoubted talent? There's one right here who has failed to nail down a starting berth in London and is seeking greener pastures.
Let's meet the contestants!
Sunderland
1 of 5Let's get the unlikely one out of the way first.
Linking Roman Pavlyuchenko to Sunderland has been like spreading butter on bread for newspapers recently. In fact, linking any surplus to requirements striker to a Steve Bruce side has become common practice.
Since Asamoah Gyan decided to uproot and move to the United Arab Emirates, Sunderland might be an option, but it's unlikely that Pavlyuchenko will stay in England.
Anzhi Makhachkala
2 of 5Straight to the most likely destination, Roman Pavlyuchenko could easily find himself playing for Anzhi Makhachkala soon.
They have money to burn and a Russian quota of players to fulfill, something which is hindering their progression to world dominance.
Top quality Russian recruits are at a premium and Suleyman Kerimov will not want to miss out on Pavlyuchenko.
One would assume the negotiations would be straight forward.
Spartak Moscow
3 of 5A club who has supposedly been in contact with Roman Pavlyuchenko's agent in every transfer window is Spartak Moscow.
According to the Russian striker, they make preliminary contact but never go through with negotiations.
In fairness, they quite likely baulk at Daniel Levy's asking prices every time as the Tottenham owner is notoriously good at recouping irresponsibly spent money.
Spartak Moscow will be an option for Roman Pavlyuchenko this January as they are a top Russian club.
CSKA Moscow
4 of 5CSKA Moscow are a serious contender for Roman Pavlyuchenko.
Why? They're a top Russian club with a high calibre squad and Pavlyuchenko wants to return to Russia.
But critically, Harry Redknapp is supposedly interested in CSKA Moscow striker Seydou Doumbia of the Ivory Coast.
A swap deal to be made? Sounds like it could be engineered, with Tottenham offloading a good striker but gaining an excellent one.
Any Other Russian Club Want to Make an Offer?
5 of 5The truth is, there's pretty much nowhere else to go for Roman Pavlyuchenko.
Usually, players have several choices but for this man, due to his preferences, it seems like a Russia or retirement situation.
Tottenham traditionally hates selling players to clubs even remotely close to them in the Premier League standings and hold English clubs to ransom in negotiations. As stated, Daniel Levy is excellent at negotiating.
Roman Pavlyuchenko still hasn't really learned the English language very well and seems convinced unless he moves back to Russia he won't be selected for the national team in Euro 2012.
Zenit St. Petersburg, Rubin Kazan, Lokomotiv Moscow and Dynamo Moscow are the only other Russian clubs of considerable note that may be contention to sign him.
