Pacquaio vs. Marquez: Why Fans Should Avoid Watching Pac-Man Obliterate Marquez
This weekend's bout between Manny Pacquaio (53-3-2) and Juan Marquez (53-5-1) may be the most anticipated fight that boxing has seen in the last two or three years.
It's a worldwide belief that both Manny Pacquaio and Floyd Mayweather Jr. are the top two boxers in the world, and they are leaps and bounds ahead of the rest of the competition.
However, Juan Marquez is one of the very few fighters to give either of these two any competition in the ring.
Well, Pacquiao at least. Mayweather beat on Marquez in their meeting two years ago.
Pacquiao and Marquez have met in the ring twice before.
The first time the fight resulted in a draw, one of the few blemishes on Pacquiao's record. The second time Pacquiao pulled off a split decision victory.
That was before. This is now.
Pacquiao is on a 14-match winning streak, the second longest in his career. A win against Marquez will tie him with his best streak at 15.
Right now, Pacquiao is steps ahead of where he was as a fighter the first two times that they faced off.
Marquez, now 38-years-old, seems to be on his last leg in the ring.
Pacquiao really should have no problems winning this fight. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if Pacquiao delivers Marquez his first knockout loss in his career.
The real issue here is how much hype this fight is getting.
I don't care who Pacquiao fights until he steps in the ring with Mayweather. That is how everybody should look at this bout.
Why do we continue to support these two fighters when they haven't given us the fight that everybody wants to see?
If people really want to see Pacquiao vs. Mayweather, then why do we continue to support and watch the two fighters destroy lesser opponents in the ring?
