5 Heavyweights Who Haven't Faced Wladimir Klitschko but Might
There was a time when the heavyweights were the most discussed division in boxing. Now, even when the heavyweight champion, Wladimir Klitschko, fights, it's not guaranteed to be on American TV.
Part of this has to do with his boring style of constant jabbing and lack of combinations.
The other part, however, has to do with the lack of challengers left to oppose him in the division.
With that said there are still a few heavyweights left who could cause him problems.
Tyson Fury
1 of 5The young British fighter has been undefeated in his career so far, and though his competition hasn't been stellar, he has been active and dominant. He is also able to knock people out, and standing at 6'9'', could handle Klitschko's height.
He also faced Derek Chisora, who was at one point slated to take on Klitschko himself. Fury was able to remove Chisora from the main event scene, and as long as he keeps winning, could be fighting for the title in the near future.
Fury hasn't done much to warrant the shot, but with the heavyweight division the way it is, it's enough.
Chris Arreola
2 of 5Technically Arreola has had a shot at the title, but it was against Wladimir's brother Vitali.
Though Arreola was embarrassed and beaten badly in that match, he has since come back shedding weight and is on a five fight win streak.
Arreola, who was notorious for being lazy at the gym and sometimes skipping days of training, has shown a new focus recently.
It would be understandable for boxing fans to be skeptical, but Arreola has the talent to give him another shot.
That is as long as he stays focused.
Francesco Pianeta
3 of 5At one point, the young Italian was quickly becoming a name mentioned by hardcore boxing fans as a potential title challenger.
He held the EBU belt and was beating C-class competition.
Then he hit a stumbling block in a fight with Albert Sosnowski which would be declared a draw.
Since that fight Sosnowski fought Vitali Klitschko for the title and lost and Pianeta has fought journeymen.
Still, he is undefeated and has beaten some good opponents.
As long as he doesn't stumble anytime soon, he might get a shot at the title.
Alexander Povetkin
4 of 5The former gold medalist from Russia is undefeated and a current title holder. Though he has rarely appeared on American TV, he is trained by Teddy Atlas who is a commentator for ESPN's Friday Night Fights.
That alone could draw stateside interest for the fight.
He also holds a win over former champions Ruslan Chagaev and Chris Byrd and heavyweight contender Eddie Chambers, and has an aggressive style that just might cause problems for Klitschko.
And who doesn't want to see that?
Robert Helenius
5 of 5The Finnish fighter might not hold a championship, but his competition has been better than some that do.
In the last couple of years he has faced Taras Bydenko, Lamon Brewster, Samuel Peter and Siarhei Liakhovich.
None of the fights have gone the distance, and Helenius has never lost.
If that doesn't make a fighter the No. 1 contender for the belt, what does?
