BCS Standings: Clemson Tigers and More Teams That Will Continue to Fall
A few decisive upsets shook up this week’s BCS standings, and for some of the teams that fell, the hits will keep on coming. This trio of Week 9 losers haven’t seen their BCS positions bottom out just yet:
Clemson Tigers
Clemson isn’t as bad as it looked in Saturday night’s 31-17 pounding at the hands of Georgia Tech, but it probably isn’t quite as good as its 8-1 record would lead you to believe, either. The Tigers will face a dangerous trap game in two weeks against a dangerous Wake Forest team, but that’s far from the worst of their problems.
The Tigers have a bye week to rebound from that heavy loss, followed by two games against unranked opponents. That gives them little chance to impress the pollsters after laying an egg against the Yellow Jackets.
By the time they get another top-tier opponent (archrival South Carolina in the season finale), Clemson won’t be BCS darlings anymore—not to mention that they’ll be hard-pressed to beat a strong Gamecocks team on the road.
Kansas State Wildcats
Just a week after getting filleted by Oklahoma, the Wildcats face what could be an even tougher foe. The Oklahoma State Cowboys are unbeaten and have the second-best scoring offense in the nation. A scary prospect after the 58 points they gave up to the Sooners on Saturday.
To make next week's game even more daunting, K-State must travel to Stillwater. Collin Klein and company will need another Bill Snyder-manufactured miracle to avoid a second straight conference defeat.
Wisconsin Badgers
The Badgers are through the worst of their schedule, and don’t face another serious threat until the regular-season finale against Penn State. Unfortunately for them, that also means they don’t have another chance to get a statement win after the back-to-back losses that dropped them to No. 19 in the latest AP poll.
While the Badgers are playing non-entities like Purdue and Minnesota, BCS rivals like Auburn and Georgia Tech have big opportunities to make serious noise against ranked foes Georgia and Virginia Tech, respectively. Thus, Wisconsin could lose ground even if they keep on winning over the next few weeks.
