Pacquiao vs. Marquez: Third Time Is Not a Charm for Marquez
Manny Pacquiao is going to make quick and easy work of Juan Marquez, and finally give a definitive answer to the question of which fighter is better.
These two have fought twice before and both times it went the full 12.
First Two Fights
In 2004 these two battled to a brutal draw. They then battled in a rematch in 2008. Pacqiuao won that one by a narrow decision.
There were plenty of people who watched that fight that will tell you that Marquez got the better of Manny that night.
But that was nearly four years ago.
What's Different Now
Pacquiao is a completely different fighter. He has evolved into a more complete boxer. At the forefront of these changes is the addition of a lethal right hand.
Time has obviously aged both fighters. This is a harder pill for Marquez to swallow right now than Pacquiao. Manny is about to turn 33, while Marquez is 38.
Experts' Take
Freddi Roach on Showtime's Primetime:
"I’m worried that Marquez could have Manny’s number. He is the only fighter who seems to have figured out Manny’s style. That is why I am training Manny for the knockout—to clear the air on who is better. Manny is going to shut up Marquez once and for all—I’m sick of his whining.
Marquez will be surprised when he faces this version of Manny. He no longer fights in one direction or with one hand. Manny has become a complete fighter. He moves laterally in both directions and he throws potent punches with both hands. Manny has so many more weapons than the last time they fought. I think Manny knocks out Marquez in the sixth round.
"
Bob Arum as quoted on philstar.com:
"It’s all because Pacquaio will demonstrate that his right hand is awful as the left.
If it’s the same ‘Pacquiao’ that fought Marquez four years ago who will fight him (Marquez) on Nov. 12, it will be a close fight. But, Pacquiao had no right hand four years ago.
"
