BCS Rankings Week 10: Predicting Whether the Top 25 Will Go Up or Down
Another week of exciting college football has come and gone and for the third straight week, two more undefeated teams have lost, leaving us with six undefeated teams remaining.
With the newest edition of the BCS rankings set to be released tonight, here is a look at what the top 25 did yesterday and if they can expect to move up, down or remain the same.
No. 1: LSU Tigers
LSU had this past week off and are preparing for their game with Alabama this week. Based on the fact that Alabama did not play as well, LSU spot on top of the rankings seems safe.
Movement: Idle
No. 2: Alabama Crimson Tide
Alabama also had this past week off and are ready for their home game with LSU. This game will have not only an impact on the SEC but the national title race as well.
Movement: Idle
No. 3: Oklahoma State
Oklahoma State was not off this week although Baylor may be wishing they were. The Cowboys came out and hung 59 on the Bears and won with ease.
Movement: Idle
No. 4: Boise State
Boise State also enjoyed a week off and also had to enjoy the fact that two more undefeated teams lost. In order for the Broncos to get into the title game, they will still need more help and other undefeated teams to fall. With Stanford getting a huge win, look for the Cardinal to jump the idle Broncos.
Movement: Down
No. 5: Clemson
I mentioned that two undefeated teams fell and Clemson was one of those teams. Clemson was likely facing the last test on their schedule by heading to Georgia Tech and couldn't find an answer for the Yellow Jackets offense.
Movement: Down
No. 6: Stanford
With Boise State being on a bye and Clemson losing, Stanford and their triple overtime win should be able to jump up to the four spot in the BCS rankings. All eyes should be on the matchup in two weeks against Oregon.
Movement: Up
No. 7: Oregon
Another team to benefit from Clemson's loss will be Oregon. While they clearly were looking past Washington State, the Ducks moved to 7-1 and look to be gearing up for their game against Stanford.
Movement: Up
No. 8: Kansas State
The dream season came to an end for K-State as Oklahoma drilled them at home. They do not have time to feel bad for themselves as they head on the road to play Oklahoma State.
Movement: Down
No. 9: Oklahoma
After a home loss to Texas Tech, Oklahoma rebounded by ending Kansas State's undefeated season and still controls their own destiny in the Big 12.
Movement: Up
No. 10: Arkansas
Despite a sloppy performance against Vanderbilt, the Razorbacks still earned another victory and due to two losses to teams in front of them, Arkansas will certainly move up.
Movement: Up
No. 11: Michigan State
After a huge win over Wisconsin, the Spartans finally ran out of gas. With the loss to Nebraska, the Spartans will now need help to win their division.
Movement: Down
No. 12: Virginia Tech
Another team to win ugly was Virginia Tech. The Hokies escaped their game with Duke with a four point victory and should still move up in the rankings.
Movement: Up
No. 13: South Carolina
South Carolina earned another win, although the offense is not quite as explosive as many believed it would be. They will benefit from Kansas State's loss but this week's game against Arkansas will mean even more.
Movement: Up
No. 14: Nebraska
Nebraska just took control of their division with a win over Michigan State. The win also should result in a better BCS spot this week.
Movement: Up
No. 15: Wisconsin
For the second straight week, the Badgers feel victim to a late touchdown pass and for the second straight week, they will continue to fall in the rankings.
Movement: Down
No. 16: Texas A&M
For the third time this year, Texas A&M had a double digit lead in the second half and lost. The Aggies continue to struggle to close out game and will likely fall out of the top 25 this week.
Movement: Down
No. 17: Houston
This past week was a passing clinic by Case Keenum as he threw for nine touchdowns and kept Houston undefeated.
Movement: Up
No. 18: Michigan
After a loss to in-state rival Michigan State, the Wolverines got back to business and took out Purdue at home. The next four games will tell us a lot about Michigan as they face Iowa and Illinois on the road and then Nebraska and Ohio State at home.
Movement: Up
No. 19: Penn State
After earning win No. 409 over Illinois, Joe Paterno has two weeks to try and figure out how to get win No. 410.
Movement: Up
No. 20: Texas Tech
Just a week after beating Oklahoma on the road, Texas Tech returned home only to have their doors blown off by Iowa State.
Movement: Down
No. 21: Arizona State
After losing to Oregon, ASU got back to winning as they took out Colorado and now has a road game against UCLA.
Movement: Up
No. 22: Georgia
Georgia just continues to win, this time over Florida. The Bulldogs should make it seven straight against New Mexico State.
Movement: Up
No. 23: Auburn
For the past few weeks, Auburn has been up and down and this week against Ole Miss was one of the ups. Remaining games against Georgia and Alabama leaves the Tigers with a lot to play for.
Movement: Up
No. 24: Texas
After a bye week, Texas came out like a team prepared and took care of Kansas 43-0. It will be interesting to see which Texas Tech team they have to play next week.
Movement: Up
No. 25: West Virginia
West Virginia rebounded from their loss to Syracuse with a win over Rutgers. They return home this week for another conference game against Louisville.
