NFL Week 8 Picks: Patriots vs. Steelers and Games That Are Sure to Hit the Under

Tim DanielsOct 29, 2011

There are so many options when it comes to picking NFL games, and one of the more overlooked types is the over/under.

Using the line, which usually range from high-30s to the mid-50s depending on the teams, you have to decide whether the two teams will cumulatively reach that mark or not.

With that in mind, here are three games that will go under in Week 8.

Washington Redskins at Buffalo Bills: 45.5

The Redskins offense is in turmoil with John Beck being inserted as the starting quarterback last week, and the losses of wideout Santana Moss and running back Tim Hightower.

Unless a playmaker emerges from deep on the depth chart, this offense will struggle until season's end.

Buffalo's offense has slowed down in recent weeks after a red-hot start. Teams have become better prepared for the Bills' short passing attack and have forced them to take unsuccessful shots deep.

The Bills have also struggled in Toronto, where this Week 8 matchup will take place once again.

Prediction: 37 points scored

Indianapolis Colts at Tennessee Titans: 44

Without Peyton Manning, the Indianapolis Colts offense has gone from elite to below average.

Curtis Painter has turned out to be a better option than veteran free-agent signing Kerry Collins, but that isn't saying much, and the running game has been subpar as usual.

Titans RB Chris Johnson continues to be one of the biggest disappointments in recent memory with his dreadful performances thus far, which he has pinned on poor blocking.

The loss of No. 1 WR Kenny Britt has also negatively affected the Titans offensive attack since they don't have a serviceable replacement.

Prediction: 36 points scored

New England Patriots at Pittsburgh Steelers: 52.5

This game has all the makings of a shootout, which is why the line is so high. However, the last time the Patriots were in a game like that came against Dallas before the bye and the two teams combined to score 36 points.

Pittsburgh has the second-best pass defense in the league and will make it tough on Brady and Co. to make things happen.

The Steelers will likely play a ball-control offense in an attempt to win the time of possession battle. That should keep the scoring lower than expected.

Prediction: 47 points scored
