Oklahoma at Kansas State: Which Sooners Team Will Show Up?
By now, Sooner fans have climbed off the ledge and tried to move on with their lives after the "pantsing" Texas Tech gave the team in Crimson and Cream last weekend in Norman. That defeat ended the nations' longest home field win streak at 39 games.
They have come to grips with the fact that hopes for the programs' eighth national championship is on life support and the team no longer controls its own destiny.
Sure, the Sooners have the talent to win out, but that alone is no guarantee that they would make it all the way to their fifth BCS title game appearance since 2000.
Even if they do manage to defeat the suddenly imposing gauntlet of teams left before them, they must also hope that teams such as Stanford and Clemson stumble down the stretch.
This is a must if they wish to crack open the window of opportunity. They slammed the door on themselves by failing to realize that the Red Raiders actually have football players on scholarship too.
The question now for Oklahoma is this: Which Sooner team shows up in Manhattan?
Despite being favored on the road by two touchdowns against the undefeated and higher ranked Wildcats, the jury is still out on which way this year's squad will go from here.
Will Sooner fans be tricked by the team that showed up and struggled early in wins against Missouri and Kansas?
Will Sooner fans be treated to the team that went on the road to gut out a win at Florida State and demolished the Longhorns in Dallas?
Or, heaven forbid, will it be the team of zombies that stumbled like the walking dead into an early 31-7 deficit that coudn't be overcome in the home loss to Tech?
The season hangs in the balance and the fate of this team will be determined by how a young Oklahoma squad responds to the adversity they now face.
A quick start and a big road win this weekend are mandatory if Stoops' Troops hope to get the Sooner Schooner back on track to attain any of the goals they have remaining for the season.
