Alabama Football Recruiting 2012: Five Recruits That Could Give Tide No.1 Class

Edwin WeathersbyOct 28, 2011

Right now, I have Alabama at No. 3 in my recruiting class rankings. The Tide always do it big on the trail and have a recruiting process that is prided on evaluation, character, projection by physical and coaching development/thoroughness.

But again, 'Bama fans are asking what can their program do to surge up to snag that No. 1 spot on the first Wednesday of February 2012?

Well Tide fans, here are five recruits that if your team gets commitments from, could give you the national No. 1 class...again.

5. Jordan Jenkins, DE/OLB

1 of 5

Right now, Jordan Jenkins pretty much has Alabama and Florida on equal football scopes. Georgia, Tennessee, Auburn and Georgia Tech are looking from the outside in.

6'3", 250-pounds, Jenkins is a 4-3 weakside DE type that would likely move to OLB in Alabama's 3-4 scheme. In fact, he's athletic enough to play the JACK position for Nick Saban and wreak havoc in the SEC.

Getting him would go a long way landing the top class in the country.

4. Eddie Goldman, DT

2 of 5

This is a tough one because of the scheme fit. Goldman is a 6'4", 315-pounder that is a hellraiser on the DL. But it seems he wants to play a three-technique role in a 40 front, and 'Bama plays a lot of 30 fronts.

I know, the Tide does employ some 40 front schemes. But it depends on if they want Goldman to play nose tackle. If so, then there's a high chance he won't come to Tuscaloosa.

If he can be shown on the board and tape, what his role would do, and how it will exploit his strengths as a playmaking DT, then 'Bama has a good shot.

3. Quay Evans, DT

3 of 5

Now with Evans, it seems like he digs what Alabama does defensively and won't mind playing on a 30 front. Whether he plays DE or NT.

6'2" and 320 pounds, Evans has excellent play strength and explodes at the snap. He's an interior problem for an OL and would be a stalwart in Tuscaloosa.

However, Mississippi State and Ole Miss are rivaling the Tide for his services. But a commitment from Evans would be big time in continuing the great DL play at Alabama.

2. Landon Collins, DB/LB

4 of 5

This would be a huge coup for the Tide. Because, from a defensive standpoint, you already have a pledge from elite safety prospect Eddie Williams, a 6'4", 205-pound FS type.

If you can get the complimentary strong safety/OLB/box defender type in Landon Collins, then you have two likely future all-conference players at your safety spots.

6'0", 210 pounds, Collins hits like a truck, has speed to cover on the back end, fits the run and would be a Mark Barron type of player in Tuscaloosa.

1. Kwon Alexander, LB

5 of 5

Here's another questionable system fit. Alexander has the makings of a pure 4-3 OLB. He's rangy, excellent in pursuit, super athletic, speedy and instinctive.

Alabama likes their ILBs to be big thumpers that can take on FBs and OLs, shed and stop inside runs, while their OLBs are pure pass rushers.

The 6'2", 210-pound Alexander doesn't really fit neither LB spots description for the Crimson Tide. However, I'm sure if he were to head to 'Bama, Nick Saban would find a way to put him in a spot where he would be able to play to his strengths.

Only time will tell.
