NFL Week 8 Picks: New Orleans Saints and More Teams Who Will Cruise to Road Wins

Michael DixonOct 28, 2011

Of the 13 games on the NFL schedule in Week 8, I have five road teams winning.

However, as is the case with any group of games, I am much more sure of some than I am of others.

For example, I have the Patriots going into Pittsburgh and beating the Steelers. Would it surprise me if the Steelers won? Not even a little bit.

However, that's not the case for these three teams. Yes, they will lack home-field advantage, but I don't anticipate them having much trouble going into enemy territory and claiming victory.

Detroit Lions

I know that Tim Tebow is the kind of quarterback that can run around and avoid the Lions' pass rush. In fact—even if his passes aren't extremely pretty—against a front four like Detroit's, a quarterback like Tebow is a very valuable weapon.

Nevertheless, the Lions are just a much better team. They have far too many weapons for the Broncos to compete with, even on Tebow's best day.

I am far more concerned with how the Broncos will stop Matthew Stafford, Calvin Johnson and the prolific Detroit defense.

The Lions will end their skid and claim victory in Denver.

New Orleans Saints

A big part of the Saints' potential problems on road is that a team built for a dome has to go outdoors.

Well, that's not the case this week, as the Rams also play in a dome.

Simply put, the Rams are not clicking right now. They are a beaten-up team with a depleted secondary. So, how is that secondary going to shut down Drew Brees?

Seriously—I'm asking. I haven't figured out how it's going to happen.

The Saints made mincemeat out of a winless opponent in the Colts last week. This one won't be that bad, but it won't be terribly close, either.

Cincinnati Bengals

Every time I think the Seahawks are done, they pull a miraculous win out and keep their heads above water. While it's true that Seattle is much better at home than on the road, I don't see them coming through here.

Danny O'Neil of the Seattle Times has reported that quarterback Tarvaris Jackson hasn't been practicing. What's more, Pete Carroll is unsure of whether Jackson or Charlie Whitehurst will start at quarterback.

So—just to clarify—the options are a beaten-up Tarvaris Jackson, who hasn't been practicing, or Charlie Whitehurst?

I'll take the team opposing that one, any day.
