Michigan State vs. Nebraska: Don't Count the Cornhuskers out Just Yet
In Nebraska’s one game on the national stage, the Huskers fell completely apart. They got dominated by Wisconsin 48-17 and their defense has failed to impress all season long. Things could get even worse for them now that Jared Crick is done for the season after tearing his pectoral muscle.
So why is this team the Vegas favorite to beat Michigan State?
The first reason is that this game is being played in Lincoln and the Spartans have failed to impress on the road. They lost 31-13 against Notre Dame and squeaked out a three-point win at Ohio State in their only road games this season.
The last home loss came at the end of the 2009 season when they finished 6-7.
Nebraska on the other hand hasn’t lost at home since October 16th of last year.
The other important thing to note is the difficulty the Blackshirt defense has had stopping mobile quarterbacks. They were losing badly to Ohio State, but after Braxton Miller went down, they were able to mount a furious comeback to win the game
Kirk Cousins is not a mobile quarterback by any definition, so they can stack the box more against Edwin Baker and LeVeon Bell and leave their considerably better secondary to cover B.J. Cunningham and the other receivers.
This game is also a huge trap for Michigan State. For all the great things they did last year, the Spartans got blown out by Iowa and Alabama and have just as many chokes as they have miracle plays like the fake field goal against Notre Dame and the Rocket Play against Wisconsin.
It will be tough to replace Jared Crick, but Nebraska has been dealing with injuries all season long. The Vegas odds makers are definitely not crazy for picking the upset in this matchup.
