Kansas vs. Texas: Last-Minute Spread Info, Line, BCS Impact and Predictions

Andrew KulhaOct 27, 2011

This weekend's Big 12 matchup between the Kansas Jayhawks (2-5) and No. 24 Texas Longhorns (4-2) is a game featuring two teams that desperately need the win no matter the cost, so I can only imagine it's going to be a good game.

To be fair, Kansas has always been more of a basketball school, but losing five straight games doesn't sit well no matter which program gets more publicity.

Texas is coming off a losing streak of their own. The Longhorns were looking to make news in the Big 12, but then they ran into Oklahoma and Oklahoma State two weeks in a row.

Like I said, both teams need a win here.

Where: Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium, Austin, TX

When: Saturday Oct. 29 at 7 p.m EST

Watch: Longhorn Network

Spread: Texas -29

That's a tricky number to cover, so I'd suggest staying away from it.

Over/Under: 64

Both teams are averaging just about 30 points per game. That being said, I don't see Kansas keeping that up.

Key Injuries:

Kansas: Running back Rell Lewis questionable (undisclosed), linebacker Huldon Tharp questionable (ribs).

Texas: Defensive tackle Ashton Dorsey questionable (hip), linebacker Jordan Hicks questionable (hamstring), linebacker Demarco Cobbs questionable (arm), defensive back Adrian Phillips doubtful (arm).

BCS/Top 25 Poll Implications:

At No. 24, the Longhorns are just about on the cusp of being knocked out of the Top 25 with another loss.

Keys to Kansas Win:

Jordan Webb is a good quarterback, so if the Jayhawks do have a chance to win it's going to be because of him. He's got 12 touchdowns compared to five interceptions on the season. Needless to say, he can't turn the ball over in this game.

Keys to Texas Win:

With the quarterback position being so up and down, running back Malcolm Brown becomes the key to this game. If the Longhorns can control the ball and put up consistent points, they will win this game.

Prediction:

Texas won't lose three in a row at home.

Longhorns 27, Kansas 20
