January Transfer Rumours: 50 Likely Deals for World Football Transfer Window

Michael CummingsOct 27, 2011

January is just a couple months away now. So if you're getting transfer fever (you know you are), you've come to the right place.

The following is our list of 50 world football transfers we think are likely to get done in January. What does "likely" mean?

It doesn't necessarily mean these deals will definitely happen. It just means we think there's a better than average chance.

Getting excited yet? So are we.

Carlos Tevez, Manchester City to Anywhere

1 of 50

This has been going on for ages, so we'll get right to the point.

Carlos Tevez will leave Manchester City in January. It's looking more and more like Corinthians might be his destinantion.

The latest news comes from Tevez's agent, who says Tevez is strongly leaning towards a move to the Brazilian club.

Several other clubs have been linked with Tevez, notably Real Madrid. But it's looking like he wants to go to South America.

David Beckham out of MLS, or Maybe Not

2 of 50

David Beckham's contract with LA Galaxy of Major League Soccer ends after the season (MLS Cup, the final match of the season, is scheduled for Nov. 20).

He's been linked with moves to seemingly every club on earth, from England to France to Brazil to the Middle East.

For now, though, Paris St. Germain seem to be in the lead for Beckham's signature. Recent reports say Beckham would be offered a playing and television deal with the French club.

But Beckham could stay in Southern California, too. Galaxy manager Bruce Arena says it's 50-50 whether Beckham will stay or go.

Gary Cahill to a Contender

3 of 50

Bolton defender Gary Cahill has been one of the hottest names in the transfer market since the summer.

He nearly moved to Arsenal on the last deadline day but the teams couldn't agree on a fee.

Since then, though, he's been linked to several clubs, including Arsenal again, Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur and even Real Madrid.

We think he'll go to one of those clubs in January.

Roman Pavlyuchenko Far, Far Away from Spurs

4 of 50

Poor Roman Pavlyuchenko.

Everybody knows he's a good player (probably even Harry Redknapp), but he just cannot get a game with Spurs.

It's gotten so bad that he's lashing out against his team now.

And, of course, 'Arry is willing to listen to offers for the Russian striker.

Eden Hazard, Lille to Somewhere

5 of 50

Eden Hazard has been anointed "The Most Wanted Player in Europe."

We're not going to argue with that.

Here's a sampling of teams interested in signing the 20-year-old Belgian midfielder away from Lille: Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea, Real Madrid, Inter, Manchester City, PSG and Manchester United.

Hazard's agent has said his client will stay with Lille until next summer.

We're not buying that.

Alessandro Del Piero To Go Somewhere

6 of 50

Alessandro Del Piero is under contract with Juventus until the end of the current season.

But we think Juventus might want to cash in on their star veteran before the summer.

Del Piero has been the subject of transfer rumours to MLS (though he has denied any interest), and some European clubs want him too.

Neymar to Spain

7 of 50

Forget what the president of Santos keeps saying—Neymar is heading for a big-money move.

And it will happen sooner than later.

Real Madrid players think he'd be a good fit at Santiago Bernabeu (of course they do).

But Barcelona also has shown interest, apparently.

Wesley Sneijder to Manchester United

8 of 50

Yep—we're going there.

Wesley Sneijder to Manchester United was perhaps the most tiresome transfer saga of the summer. We think it's about to be revived.

Why? Two reasons.

First, even though the move didn't materialize in the summer, Sneijder still thanked United fans. That was a completely unnecessary but revealing gesture.

Second, United just suffered a 6-1 home defeat by Manchester City. Sir Alex Ferguson will be looking to strengthen his squad.

Sure, Sneijder insists he's happy with Inter. That doesn't mean he won't move.

Giuseppe Rossi to Italy

9 of 50

Sometimes, a denial says more than any positive statement ever could.

Villarreal vice president Jose Manuel Llaneza recently said Giuseppe Rossi definitely won't leave Villarreal in January.

To that we say: yeah, right.

Villarreal are bad this year. Rossi is upset. He's also Italian (and American!).

He's gonna move to Italy. It just makes sense.

Dimitar Berbatov Away from Manchester United

10 of 50

Dimitar Berbatov has been ready to quit Manchester United for some time now.

The striker is still out of favor, and United are still getting offers.

He'll be gone in January.

Ganso out of Santos

11 of 50

Paolo Henrique Ganso is another up-and-coming Santos star who's been linked with big moves to Europe.

He's been a little more explicit than Neymar about wanting out of Brazil.

Back in the summer, Ganso was linked with Manchester United and AC Milan among others.

We think someone will snap him up this winter.

Eric Abidal to Manchester City or Elsewhere

12 of 50

Yes, it's true. Some reports have said French defender Eric Abidal is close to a contract extension with Barcelona.

But that's been the case since the summer.

We think it's more likely he'll make a winter transfer, possibly to Manchester City.

Milan and PSG are also interested, according to reports.

Riccardo Carvalho out of Real Madrid

13 of 50

Riccardo Carvalho played for Jose Mourinho at Chelsea and plays for him now at Real Madrid.

The partnership might end soon.

Carvalho's contract runs out at the end of the season, and Real might want to sell him in January to prevent losing him for nothing in the summer.

Juventus has joined the chase for the Portuguese defender's signature. Fenerbahce are also reportedly interested.

Nicklas Bendtner to Sevilla

14 of 50

Denmark striker Nicklas Bendtner is currently on loan from Arsenal at Sunderland.

That loan deal could be cut short if he moves to Sevilla permanently in January.

The deal is being reported by TalkSport and InsideFutbol.

Ricky Van Wolfswinkel to Manchester United

15 of 50

Ricky Van Wolfswinkel sounds like the name of a medieval Dutch noble, or one of Santa's helpers.

But it's actually the name of a Sporting striker who's been linked with a move to Manchester United.

We think this one makes a lot of sense for United, who need some more attacking firepower in light of that loss to City.

Jordan Ibe, Wycombe Wanders to Liverpool

16 of 50

Jordan Ibe is a 15-year-old winger who has recently broken into Wycombe Wanderers' first team.

He impressed during a recent trial at Liverpool, and now the Merseyside club are weighing a bid for him.

Ibe has also drawn interest from both Manchester clubs and Fulham, according to that report.

But considering he already had a trial at Liverpool, we think Ibe is heading to Anfield.

Jonathan Soriano to Benfica

17 of 50

Jonathan Soriano is a 26-year-old Spanish striker who's stuck in the B-team at Barcelona.

Last summer he was linked with a move to Swansea.

Now he's talking up a move to Benfica.

Sounds good to us.

Juan to Inter

18 of 50

Brazilian center-back Juan, an Under-20 World Cup winner, has been linked with a move from his club, Internacional, to Europe.

Recent reports have suggested he's open to a move to one of the Milan clubs.

This report says Inter lead the chase, while Napoli are also interested.

Kolo Toure out of Manchester City

19 of 50

Stringer Bell—er, Kolo Toure recently returned from a long-term doping ban.

Now he might be heading out of Manchester City.

He has already admitted he's interested in leaving, possibly for PSG.

It occurs to us that Arsenal could certainly use a defender of his stature, regardless of the history there.

Adel Taarabt to PSG

20 of 50

Adel Taarabt recently announced plans to release a DVD of a live concert. Wait, what? Wrong Adele.

The real Adel just entered stage two of every transfer chase: batting eyelashes.

Taarabt said he's flattered by PSG's interest in him.

In other words, he's going to be leaving QPR soon.

Fernando to Milan

21 of 50

Fernando has a history of discontent at Porto.

Now that AC Milan is reportedly interested, we think he's destined for the door.

El-Hadji Diouf to West Ham

22 of 50

Since El-Hadji Diouf is a free agent, this deal might happen even sooner than January.

Diouf and West Ham have a bad history.

But Diouf also has a good history with current manager Sam Allardyce and as of last week was training with the club.

Andy Polo to Bundesliga

23 of 50

Andy Polo is a 17-year-old sensation who currently plays for Universitario de Deportes of Peru.

Dubbed the new Sergio Aguero (we thought he was kind of new on the world scene), Polo has been linked with moves to England and Germany.

The most recent reports say he'll snub England in favor of the Bundesliga.

Humberlito Borges Teixeira to Europe

24 of 50

Humberlito Borges Teixeira is yet another Santos prospect who appear ready for a move to Europe.

The striker has scored 22 goals in 28 games this term.

His agent refused to rule out a January move.

Lucas Ocampos to Chelsea

25 of 50

Lucas Ocampos is yet another South American starlet who's drawing attention from top European clubs.

River Plate is the club, and president Daniel Passarella says Ocampos isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

But Chelsea are considering a bid of up to €17 million. Inter had a €16 million offer rejected in the summer.

Salomon Kalou on Loan

26 of 50

Chelsea's Salomon Kalou has voiced displeasure about his playing time.

Manager Andre Villas-Boas, meanwhile, said he can't guarantee Kalou a starting spot.

Previous reports had Arsenal and Liverpool interested in signing him.

We could see a loan deal happening in January.

Eduardo Vargas to AC Milan

27 of 50

Here's another up-and-coming South American youngster.

The player is Eduardo Vargas.

His current club is Universidad de Chile.

The European giant interested in signing him is AC Milan.

Ahmed Musa to Arsenal

28 of 50

Recent reports suggest Arsenal are watching VVV Venlo's Nigerian forward Ahmed Musa.

To us, this sounds like a classic Arsene Wenger deal.

Hulk to England

29 of 50

It's hard to know what to think about the future of the Hulk, Porto's awesomely named Brazilian.

He's been linked with moves to England for what seems like forever.

Sometimes he's happy at Porto.

Sometimes he's dropping hints about a move.

We think he'll move to England in January. But Porto will have to drop its price first.

Dede to Europe

30 of 50

Hey! It's another young South-American star receiving interest from Euro giants.

The player is Dede, a 23-year-old defender.

His current club is Vasco da Gama.

The clubs that are reportedly interested in signing him are Juventus, Valencia and Benfica.

Kevin De Bruyne to Chelsea

31 of 50

Chelsea tried to sign 20-year-old (but he looks 12) winger Kevin De Bruyne from Genk during the summer but had their £6 million bid rejected.

De Bruyne hasn't given up on the move, though, and Genk have reportedly said they're willing to sell for the right price.

So, £7 million, then?

Anyway, we think the deal will happen in January.

Domenico Criscito Away from Zenit

32 of 50

Zenit St. Petersburg defender Domenico Criscito says he's happy in Russia, but he kind of, sort of regrets not going to Napoli in the summer.

Uh oh.

Franck Tabanou to PSG

33 of 50

Franck Tabanou has long been linked to moves away from Toulouse.

Now the rumored destination is PSG, who seem to be linked with everybody.

Luisao to Corinthians

34 of 50

First, Luisao said he might leave Benfica for PSG.

Then he signed a new deal with Benfica.

Now he's being linked with a move to Corinthians.

Enough already. Make up your mind.

Manuel Almunia Loan Extension

35 of 50

Arsenal keeper Manuel Almunia joined West Ham United on a one-month emergency loan at the beginning of October.

Now he's hinting that he'd like to extend the deal.

We wouldn't be surprised if Almunia and West Ham make it permanent in January.

Ross Barkley Away from Everton

36 of 50

Speculation over the future of Ross Barkley is heating up.

Barkley, a 17-year-old English midfielder, has broken into the first team at Everton and is now attracting attention from two of the Premier League's biggest spenders.

Manchester United and Chelsea have reportedly shown interest, with the latter allegedly ready to offer £20 million in the January transfer window.

Everton, of course, is saying it doesn't want to sell its young star. Manager David Moyes tells the Liverpool Echo that he wants to build a new Everton around his young stars.

Neither Chelsea's interest nor Moyes' plans have stopped Manchester United fans from getting excited. How excited? Check out this forum thread discussing the possibility of Barkley becoming the next Wayne Rooney.

Mateo Kovacic to England

37 of 50

Mateo Kovacic is a 17-year-old star at Dinamo Zagreb. He's being linked to Arsenal and Manchester United.

We could really see him going to either club.

Fabio Lopes to AC Milan

38 of 50

Everybody is the new version of somebody else in the transfer market.

Real Betis midfielder Fabio Lopes is apparently the new Rui Costa. We didn't know we needed another Rui Costa.

Anyway, Lopes is being linked with a move to AC Milan.

Ivica Olic out of Bavaria

39 of 50

Croatian forward Ivica Olic has said he's unhappy with his role as a substitute at Bayern Munich.

He's threatening to ask for a transfer.

We're sure Bayern Munich are quaking in their boots.

Anyway, Manchester City were linked to Olic last year.

Cristian Ansaldi to Benfica

40 of 50

Rubin Kazan's Cristian Ansaldi is no stranger to transfer speculation.

Last year, he was linked to Manchester City (who wasn't?).

Last March, it was Liverpool and Atletico Madrid.

Now it's Benfica.

It's time. Get on with it.

Milos Krasic out of Juventus

41 of 50

Serbian winger Milos Krasic is ready to leave Juventus.

Some reports say he's going to Sevilla.

Others (here and here) say it's Manchester United.

Samir Handanovic to Inter or Milan

42 of 50

Udinese officials are insisting they won't sell goalkeeper Samir Handanovic to either Milan club.

We don't believe them.

Jordi Alba to Barcelona

43 of 50

This is Jordi Alba, a Valencia defender. He's being linked with a transfer back to Barcelona, his boyhood club.

Nicolas Lopez to Europe

44 of 50

Hey! It's another young South-American star who's drawing interest from big Euro clubs.

This time the player is Nicolas Lopez.

His current club is Nacional of Uruguay.

The clubs that are interested include Liverpool, Roma, Udinese and Palermo.

Breno to South America

45 of 50

Here's an example of a South-American star who could be headed the opposite direction.

Breno, 22, moved to Bayern Munich in 2007 after impressing as a youngster at Paulista.

After seeing little playing time, he's ready to move back. Sao Paolo are reportedly interested.

Lazio showed interest in the summer.

Alessandro Matri Back to Cagliari

46 of 50

Juventus signed striker Alessandro Matri from Cagliari last winter.

Now, Cagliari are reportedly interested in signing him back.

Okie dokie.

Gylfi Sigurdsson to Inter

47 of 50

Gylfi Sigurdsson sounds like the name of an elf in Lord of the Rings. Actually, though, he's an Icelandic striker who plays for Hoffenheim in Germany.

He's being linked with a move to Inter.

What would Frodo think?

Riccardo Montolivo to Arsenal

48 of 50

Fiorentina midfielder Riccardo Montolivo was the subject of intense speculation during the previous transfer window.

His contract at Fiorentina runs out after the season, meaning he could go to Arsenal for free next summer.

Or if they're smart, Fiorentina could sell him to the London club in January to avoid losing him for nothing.

Everybody wins!

Wayne Bridge to Anyone

49 of 50

Did you know former England left-back Wayne Bridge makes £90,000 per week?

Yep, he does. And he isn't even on Manchester City's Premiership roster!

Anyway, those wages ruined a potential loan move to Brighton (can't figure out why!).

Back in 2010, Liverpool were reportedly interested in signing him.

Somebody will be dumb and rich enough to pay him.

Josh McEachran to Swansea (Loan)

50 of 50

Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas says he'll let 18-year-old Josh McEachran go out on loan in January to earn first-team experience.

Swansea are reportedly interested in the England U-21 international.

Sounds like a good fit for everyone.
