NFL Week 8 Predictions: Which Offenses Will Rack Up Points?

John RozumOct 27, 2011

If there's one thing that can disappoint fans even in victory, it's when their offense only scores around 20 points.

Folks, not scoring on almost every possession is a thing of the past, and we're now accustomed to watching teams put up over 30 points every week regardless of the competition.

And although not every team will reach that total each week, here are three that will do so in Week 8.

New Orleans Saints (at St. Louis Rams)

If Rams' fans want to save themselves from watching the Saints roll over St. Louis, maybe real life should have a "super sim" button like in Madden.

New Orleans has proven they can put up points against anyone: their season low is actually only 20, which came at Tampa Bay. Jacksonville was the only other team to hold them under 30, so it's safe to say the Rams have no chance.

Quarterback Drew Brees spreads the rock around like a stud point guard in basketball, so don't think anything different will happen this week. St. Louis has so many issues to work out that the offseason can't come quickly enough.

Detroit Lions (at Denver Broncos)

This game will look close early on because of how much hype the Broncos are getting with Tim Tebow under center, and the Lions are coming in vulnerable after two straight home losses.

However, Detroit's level of talent is far superior, and if there's a game where they get back on track, it's Week 8 in Denver. The Broncos do have an improved defense, but with so many targets, Matthew Stafford will have no trouble airing it out.

Denver may have won on the road at Miami, but the hungry Lions are a completely different monster and need this game more. The only way Detroit doesn't put up points is if they turn the ball over and significantly underachieve against a vastly inferior defense.

Lions 41, Broncos 21

New England Patriots (at Pittsburgh Steelers)

Until they actually stop him, Tom Brady will continue to dominate the Steelers. He's 6-1 lifetime against the Steel Curtain, and two of those wins came in the postseason.

This season, Pittsburgh is allowing an uncharacteristic 100-plus rush yards per game, which makes their pass defense look better, as offenses just choose to run the ball more. Well, the NFL's most prolific offense comes to town this week, and the scary thing is, New England can also run the ball.

Brady and the Pats' won't have any more than, say, 14 points by halftime. However, by game's end, that will have more than doubled. New England has to establish a ground game to remain multidimensional because that's what gives them the best chance to win.

And, if there's anything that Coach Belichick and Brady care about, it's winning, not stats.

Patriots 38, Steelers 20
