BCS Rankings: Stanford and More Top 25 Teams That Should Be on Upset Alert
Here's a look at three Top 25 BCS teams that should be on upset alert this weekend.
Stanford (No. 6)
If a team is ever going to have a let-down game, it's likely to come after a 44-point victory against a ranked team.
While I don't necessarily expect a disciplined Stanford team to have a let-down, this is not an easy opponent.
USC has been playing much better as of late, and the Matt Barkley-to-Robert Woods connection is an extremely tough one to stop.
Stanford has one of the best defenses in the nation right now, but this one could easily turn into a shootout. We've yet to see how they handle adversity, so the Cardinal better be careful here on the road.
Oklahoma State (No. 3)
Speaking of shootouts, is there any question that this is going to turn into one?
Baylor travels to Stillwater as the Cowboys host a talented Robert Griffin-led offense. Griffin has been about as close to perfect this year as a quarterback can be, and the Bears are averaging just over 44 points per game.
On the other side of the field, however, the Cowboys aren't too shabby either. They are averaging over 48 points per game and their defense has been able to stop opponents on occasion, unlike Baylor's.
The Cowboys will be happy to be coming home after two road games, but if this gets to a shootout, and it likely will, anything can happen.
They better not take Baylor lightly.
South Carolina (No. 13)
Perhaps no team in the Top 25 is going through as much offensive change as South Carolina right now.
The Gamecocks recently dismissed quarterback Stephen Garcia and lost Marcus Lattimore to a season-ending injury.
Sophomore Connor Shaw and freshman Brandon Wilds will take their spots as tons of question marks swirl around this offense.
Still though, Shaw has looked better than Garcia, and South Carolina had the benefit of a bye last week. They should be ready to implement the new offense.
The Gamecocks will travel to Knoxville to take on Tennessee. The Volunteers have started off poorly in the SEC at 0-4, but they are better than the record indicates.
With Tyler Bray out, the Volunteers will need to get Tauren Poole going. If they can do that, they have a good chance to pull off the upset.
