Report: Saul Alvarez Brawls with 108-Pound Champ Archie Solis !IMPORTANT UPDATE!

Briggs SeekinsOct 25, 2011

Boxingscene.com is reporting that WBC jr. middleweight champion Saul Alvarez was involved in a street fight in Guadalajara, Mexico with IBF jr. flyweight champion Archie Solis. Early reports are that he broke the smaller champion's jaw and will face criminal and civil charges.

Solis was scheduled to defend his belt in December, but according to his promoter, Fernando Beltran, as quoted by Boxing Scene, he will now have to undergo surgery. Solis is further claiming that Alvarez verbally accosted him, then physically attacked him.

Beltran gets in some pretty good verbal jabs at Alvarez in this article, noting the fight would have to be considered a TKO, since Alvarez was unable to put the much smaller man down. Beltran further notes that this was Alvarez's first time taking on a really good fighter, though unfortunately a much smaller one.

According to Boxing Scene, Alvarez has denied the charges to third party sources. But the reports for now do not sound good for "Canelo," who as of right now is probably the most popular fighter in Mexico, a country and culture where the sport is properly appreciated. If Alvarez emerges from this looking like a bully, it will certainly take the sheen off his golden image.

"

Reports have Alvarez denying being the aggressor and indicated that it was actually his brother who had attacked the IBF Champion. Alvarez trainer Eddy Reynoso has stated that the ongoing rumors of a street fight between Alvarez and Solis are completely false. “Those rumors of a fist fight between Saul and “Archie” are nothing but lies.
