Week 8 Fantasy Football Start Em Sit Em: Antonio Brown and WRs You Must Start

Mike ChiariOct 25, 2011

With elite wide receivers like Roddy White and Greg Jennings on the bye this week, many fantasy owners will be looking for worthy fill-ins. Luckily, that shouldn't be much of a problem as several pass-catchers stepped up last week, while others have intriguing Week 8 matchups.

There is plenty of big-point potential among wide receivers on the waiver wire or deep on your bench, so there will be plenty of lineup decisions to make. Here are three sleepers receivers that you must start this weekend.

Torrey Smith: Baltimore Ravens

Baltimore Ravens rookie receiver Torrey Smith broke out in a big way a few weeks ago against the St. Louis Rams with three touchdown catches. His production has been pretty spotty since then, but he has a dream matchup in Week 8 against the Arizona Cardinals.

The Cards have really struggled against speed receivers like the Carolina Panthers' Steve Smith and the Pittsburgh Steelers' Mike Wallace, who burned Arizona's shaky secondary for a 95-yard touchdown last week. Smith is a big-time deep threat, and all it takes is one big play to have a good fantasy day.

Baltimore's offense was embarrassed on national television by the Jacksonville Jaguars on Monday night, so I would expect the Ravens to come out firing against Arizona. With much attention being paid to Anquan Boldin, Smith has the opportunity for a huge game.

Jabar Gaffney: Washington Redskins

While it is understandable that you might not trust a Washington Redskins wide receiver with John Beck under center, Jabar Gaffney stands to get the majority of the targets while No. 1 receiver Santana Moss is out with a broken hand.

Beck isn't anything special, but he played pretty well on Sunday in throwing for 279 yards, so Gaffney has some potential. Gaffney isn't explosive by any means, but he has between 54 and 68 yards in every game this season, so he is remarkably consistent.

He figures to be able to improve upon that deviation this week, however, against the Buffalo Bills' porous defense. The Bills have certainly struggled against the pass this season, and with running back Tim Hightower out, the 'Skins will likely be willing to sling the ball around the field a bit.

Antonio Brown: Pittsburgh Steelers

Despite not yet catching a touchdown this season, second-year Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown has been a very solid contributor. He is second on the team in targets (48), second in yardage (364) and third in catches (25), meaning quarterback Ben Roethlisberger trusts him.

Brown had his best game of the season last week with seven grabs for 102 yards against the Arizona Cardinals. He should have an equally good matchup this weekend as well against the New England Patriots' awful pass defense.

Mike Wallace is such a dangerous weapon as Pittsburgh's No. 1 receiver that the Pats will more than likely commit two or three defenders to him. This should leave Brown in single coverage and allow him to exploit New England's soft secondary. A repeat performance from last week certainly wouldn't be a surprise.
