BCS Standings: Computers Flopped Big-Time on These 5 Teams

Eric BallOct 23, 2011

The Week 9 BCS standings have been released and there are some serious errors made by the computers.

A top five of LSU, Alabama, Oklahoma State, Boise State and Clemson makes sense, but the positioning of these five teams doesn't. Here's how they fell on Sunday.

6. Stanford

They are absolutely mauling opponents and are fresh off rushing for a school-record 446 yards against a formerly No. 22 ranked Washington squad.

Andrew Luck didn't have great numbers (169 yards, two TDs), but he continues to show us why everyone in the NFL is so fixated with him.The Cardinal are currently 38-for-38 in converting red zone opportunities into points.

The defense is fourth in the nation, allowing 12.6 points a game, and the smallest margin of victory in their 7-0 season has been 21 points.

Just because they haven't played Oregon yet doesn't mean they shouldn't be right at the top with LSU and 'Bama.

No. 12 Virginia Tech

I thought the computers care about who you play. The only time the Hokies have played a ranked opponent, they were promptly smoked 23-3 by No. 5 Clemson. For some reason, wins over Wake Forest and Boston College suddenly make them a top 15 team again?

Outrageous.

V-Tech should be closer to 22, not 12.

No. 15 Wisconsin

The Badgers are fresh off one of the worst stomach punching losses of all-time and were too severely penalized.

Sure the computers don't know they lost on a miracle hail mary, but this is still a top 10 team.

They rank fifth in points for (47.4) and sixth in points against (13.6).

Dropping this far after such a fluke pass isn't right and the computers got this one completely wrong.

No. 17 Houston

The Cougars schedule is toilet paper soft. They squeaked by an awful UCLA team and have feasted on terrible Conference USA opponents ever since.

Sure they have the top ranked offense statistically, averaging over 49 points a game, but it's hard to gauge just how good this team is.

Considering the defense is allowing over 23 points a game against a cupcake schedule, something tells me they will be exposed once they finally play an opponent of note...in a bowl game.

No. 20 Texas Tech

The Red Raiders pulled off the upset of the season in beating Oklahoma, and should get a bigger reward than No. 20.

The two losses on the season are against No. 8 Kansas State and No. 17 Texas A&M by a combined 10 points.

Considering they are ninth in the nation with 43.4 points a game, the offense is hard to stop and the defense is improving every week.

Expect the Red Raiders to keep rising up the rankings as the season progresses.
