BCS Rankings Week 9: How BCS Top 5 Should Really Look After Week 9
No one in the top 5 is safe. Nothing is guaranteed except for drastic change. The top of the current BCS standings may look like it’s full of teams that will run the table.
Not so fast though; the top 5 will be unrecognizable by the end of the regular season. Next week, change will begin. Here is how the BCS top 5 should look after Week 9:
No. 5 Boise State
On a bye, Boise State will drop in the rankings. Broncos fans know this: If their team and Stanford go undefeated, the Pac-12 champ is going to get the higher ranking every single time. One of Boise State’s competition for a national title bid, though, Clemson will be eliminated.
No. 4 Stanford
Up against Georgia Tech and their triple-option attack, Clemson’s abysmal run defense that has allowed 1,355 yards on the ground this season won’t be able to hold up. After a Clemson loss, Stanford will leapfrog them and Boise State in the rankings next week. In a game featuring two highly sought after NFL prospects at the quarterback position, Andrew Luck will outplay Matt Barkley.
No. 3 Oklahoma State
Believe it or not, slowing down Robert Griffin III next week will be one of the Cowboys' easiest tasks left on their schedule. Nothing against Baylor, Oklahoma State’s future competition is just that stiff. At home, OK-State will be able to stay perfect against the Bears.
No. 2 Alabama
With a bye, the Crimson Tide is safe for another week. There is no question who the top two teams in the country are right now. Alabama has the best defense and running back in the nation; that’s not a bad combination to boast at all.
No. 1 LSU
Like their SEC foe, the Tigers have a bye going into their epic battle with Alabama. The matchup is without a doubt the game of the year, and the winner could very well end up being the national champion. LSU has been ranked No. 1 for weeks as they’ve never beaten an opponent by less than two scores.
