BCS Rankings: How the Top 5 Will Look in Second BCS Poll

Austin GreenOct 23, 2011

Several top-tier teams went tumbling on Saturday, leading to an inevitable shake up at the top of the BCS rankings.

Third ranked Oklahoma and sixth ranked Wisconsin both fell to conference opponents on Saturday, which means they'll go sliding in the second edition of the BCS poll.

Here's how the top five should look when the second poll is released tonight.

No. 1: LSU Tigers

No surprise here, as the Tigers made yet another statement against a ranked team on Saturday.

This time, they crushed No. 20 Auburn 45-10.

This was LSU's fifth game against a ranked opponent, all of whom they have dominated. The Tigers were even without their best defender, Tyrann Mathieu, and top running back, Spencer Ware, on Saturday.

It made little difference, as the deep, fast and downright scary Tigers defense suffocated Auburn.

No. 2: Alabama Crimson Tide

The Crimson Tide were awful in the first half against the depleted Tennessee Volunteers, but a big third quarter got them back on track.

Alabama ripped off 31 unanswered points to beat Tennessee 37-6 on Saturday.

They could have fell to No. 3 if Oklahoma had been impressive. However, the Sooners' loss guarantees the Tide will be ranked second when they take on No. 1 LSU in two weeks.

No. 3: Oklahoma State Cowboys

The Cowboys were very impressive on Saturday, dominating the Missouri Tigers despite losing star receiver Justin Blackmon in the second half.

Oklahoma State is the prime benefactor of Oklahoma's loss. With their conference rivals going down on Saturday, the Cowboys will definitely slide into their place.

Next week, the Cowboys take on Robert Griffith III and Baylor.

No. 4: Clemson Tigers

I've been riding shotgun on the Clemson bandwagon this season, and I think this is the week they leapfrog Boise State in the rankings.

The Broncos won again on Saturday, but Clemson's schedule has been much stronger. They beat three ranked opponents in consecutive weeks and have put up 50-plus points in back-to-back games.

Sophomore quarterback Tajh Boyd has been spectacular. Boyd has thrown for 2,379 yards and 24 touchdowns this season. He also has just three interceptions.

No. 5: Boise State Broncos

I initially thought Boise State would drop to No. 6 this week, but Wisconsin's loss to Michigan State means the Broncos will stay put.

BSU improved to 7-0 by defeating Air Force 37-26 on Saturday.

Next week, they travel to UNLV to take on the 1-5 Rebels.
