Seahawks vs. Browns: 5 Adjustments Cleveland Must Make at the Half

Aliko CarterOct 23, 2011

Seattle is missing Tarvaris Jackson and Marshawn Lynch, and the Browns playing in front of their hometown fans. Even without Peyton Hillis, they should be able to take this game after the unfortunate loss in Oakland last Sunday. Here are five adjustments Cleveland must make to bring down Seattle in the second half:

1. Protect Colt McCoy

The Browns' first drive ended up with a punt out of their own end zone, thanks in part to a Colt McCoy sack on third down. The Browns' offensive line must do a better job of keeping him untouched so he can feel more comfortable in the pocket.

2. Run the Ball

Seattle may be a bad team overall, but their run defense is pretty effective. To be able to use the air as a valuable weapon this afternoon, the Browns must also run the ball successfully to keep giving the Seahawks' defense different looks. They need to keep going to Montario Hardesty, who's looking pretty good out there in the first half.

3. Three-and-Outs

The Browns started the game with two straight three-and-outs. Not only do their special teams have to do a better job of getting them prime field position, but they also have to execute with more poise so deep in their own territory if they're going to have a chance of getting to the other side of the 50-yard line more often.

4. Penalties

Both the Browns and Seahawks have had their share of foolish penalties today. They team that avoids them in the second half with have a deciding edge.

5. Special Teams Woes

Cleveland had a blocked field goal to take away the first score of the game at the beginning of the second quarter. In this relatively low-scoring game, that field goal could mean the difference between a win and a loss.
