BCS Rankings: Oklahoma, Wisconsin and BCS Title Frauds That Were Ousted
After one of the craziest weeks of the entire college football season, three of the biggest frauds in the sport were outed as the pretenders they really are.
While many fans disguised as “experts” were claiming that these teams were the best of the bunch, the truth was put on full display yesterday when these teams were trounced along with their BCS title dreams.
A word of warning to Oklahoma, Wisconsin and Auburn fans before reading on: Honesty is the best policy and this hurts me to say more than it hurts you to read. Not really.
Oklahoma—The talk about the Oklahoma Sooners was overblown from Day 1 of the 2011 season. As a matter of fact, it started well before the start of the season.
The first inclination that the team was a joke is when they slid out of the top spot in the nation without a loss. The voters realized that this Sooners team just wasn’t as good as everyone thought it was.
With further proof that Landry Jones belongs nowhere near the Heisman trophy consideration, I present the most overrated team in the country.
Wisconsin—Another overrated team is the Wisconsin Badgers, and they were exposed by a team that is predicated on tough defense.
The popular belief is that if the Badgers faced stiffer competition, their record would be far different than it is right now, and the proof is in the pudding.
Michigan State made Wisconsin look silly throughout the game, and the Spartans should be ranked higher than the Badgers in the next BCS poll.
Auburn—While the other teams were vastly overrated, there is no bigger fraud of a team in the United States than the Auburn Tigers.
While it’s true they lost many key parts to the NFL and graduation last season and they are very young, it doesn’t change the fact that they are continually talked about as a top 25 team when they should be lucky to be in the BCS top 50.
The unbridled commitment to the SEC by the AP and the BCS Polls is evident by Auburn’s spot on the current polls, but another loss will remedy that for at least one week.
