BCS Rankings: Why Oklahoma State Will Play in the BCS National Championship Game
Believe it or not, Oklahoma State is in a perfect position to play for the BCS National Championship game. Not only do they host No. 3 Oklahoma on December 3, but No. 1 LSU and No. 2 also play each other at the end of the season.
All the Cowboys need to do is win the rest of their games and they would deserve the right to play in the national title game.
I don’t doubt the Cowboys' ability to run the table because of their explosive offense. Brandon Weeden and Justin Blackmon may have the best one-two, quarterback-wide receiver combinations in the country. It will all fall on their defense. If the defense can make plays, Oklahoma State will keep their title aspirations alive.
Big 12 football is equal to SEC football in 2011. If it isn’t equal, it is better.
The Big 12 has the same amount of ranked teams, Top 20 teams, but they have three undefeated teams compared to two in the SEC.
The SEC has a combined record of 52-27 (12 teams) and the Big 12 is 42-18 (10 teams). The Big 12 doesn’t get the credit it deserves for having some of the best teams in the nation.
Oklahoma State doesn’t have to worry about playing a weak schedule like Boise State. They can lean on the fact that they host Oklahoma at the end of the season and they will benefit from LSU and Alabama playing each other.
They sit in a great position.
Also, they have their tough opponents (Baylor, Kansas State and Oklahoma) at home in their schedule. Their only road games (after Missouri on Saturday) will be Texas Tech and Iowa State.
When December 3 comes around, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State will not only be playing for the Big 12 crown, but a national championship berth.
