Missouri SEC Expansion: Move to CFB's Best Conference Would Doom Tigers Program
If the Missouri Tigers want their football program to fail, they should make an immediate jump to the SEC.
However, if they want this team to be successful, and have dreams of playing in a BCS game.
That simply won't happen if the Tigers make the leap to college football's best conference. The SEC is without a doubt the most dominant conference. The conference boasts teams such as Florida, Alabama, Auburn, and LSU.
Despite all of that, the Tigers are considering a move to the SEC. According to College Football Talk, the school has given Chancellor Deaton the power to take action on whether or not to join the SEC or remain with the Big 12.
The decision is a simple one.
While Missouri may be concerned about the future of the Big 12, the risk is worth it to remain with their current conference. The Tigers are not known as a football powerhouse, and they likely will never become one if they move to the SEC.
There are just too many quality opponents in that conference, and no recruit is going to choose Missouri over Alabama, LSU, or Florida. It just won't happen. The Tigers gain absolutely nothing by making this move to the SEC.
They should remain in the Big 12, where they at least have a chance to compete. They have been competitive in the past, with Blaine Gabbert leading the way, and will likely remain competitive. It is possible that recruits would choose Missouri over some of the more elite Big 12 schools when playing time is being taken into account, but that would be much tougher in the SEC.
Missouri would be competing with other mid-level schools in the conference such as Ole Miss, Georgia, and South Carolina.
There is just too much competition in the SEC, thus this move makes no sense for Missouri.
