College Football Predictions: 5 Teams That Will Cover the Spread in Week 8
Last week's picks went 3-2 against the spread, bringing our overall record to 11-4 on the year.
Looking ahead to Week 8, we intend to stick with the ongoing theme of the 2011 college football season—bet the elite teams to cover no matter where they are playing.
The AP Top 10 teams are a combined 38-14 against the spread on the season and an astonishing 16-1 over the last two weeks.
Obviously this trend isn't going to last forever, but you know what they say—if it ain't broke...
Oklahoma State (-7) at Missouri
1 of 5We'd like to see this go down to 6.5 before kickoff, but we'll lay the seven no problem when it comes to the Oklahoma State offense.
OK State comes in averaging over 49 points per contest, thanks to quarterback Brandon Weeden's 350 yards passing per game and Justin Blackmon's seven receiving touchdowns.
And we know the Cowboys can win on the road, winning by 12 at Texas last weekend and beating Texas A&M in College Station earlier this year.
Prediction: Oklahoma State 38, Missouri 30
Oregon (-31.5) at Colorado
2 of 5Lock. Of. The. Week.
Who cares if LaMichael James or Darron Thomas plays? They didn't play last week, and they beat 18th ranked Arizona State by 14 points while racking up 536 yards of total offense.
Meanwhile, Colorado is potentially one of the worst teams in the country, with their one and only win on the season coming against Colorado State.
Colorado lost by 28 to Washington, they will lose by a lot more than that to Oregon and their high powered offense—with or without James and Thomas.
Prediction: Oregon 50, Colorado 14
Stanford (-20.5) vs Washington
3 of 5Why is Washington ranked? The only good team they have played so far is Nebraska and they lost by 13.
I can tell you that Stanford is A LOT better than Nebraska and that the Cardinal just happen to be the only team in America with a perfect 6-0 record against the spread.
Take the home team with the NFL quarterback in this one kids.
Prediction: Stanford 45, Washington 17
4. Arkansas (-16) at Mississippi
4 of 5Talk about a breather for the Razorbacks, their last three games were against Alabama (loss), Texas A&M (win) and Auburn (win).
Arkansas now finds themselves at 5-1 overall and ranked ninth in the initial BCS standings.
Meanwhile, the Rebels are 2-4 on the season and continue to get blown out in the SEC—including a 23-point loss to Vanderbilt.
Arkansas > Vanderbilt
Prediction: Arkansas 40, Mississippi 17
5. Notre Dame (-9.5) vs USC
5 of 5The Irish are headed in the right direction during year two of the Brian Kelly era and Vegas agrees, as they now have the Irish rated as the ninth best team in America.
USC, on the other hand, may very well be the worst 5-1 team in the nation. The Trojans lost by 21 at Arizona State and will have a tough time keeping it that close with an Irish team loaded with talent on both sides of the ball.
USC enters the contest with injuries to significant players on both offense and defense, while the Irish are fully healthy after their bye week.
As long as Notre Dame doesn't beat itself (which we all know they are very capable of doing), the Irish should win this one fairly easily.
Prediction: Notre Dame 38, USC 20
