The Boston College Eagles and Virginia Tech Hokies are having an ACC showdown in Blacksburg on Saturday.
These two teams couldn’t be going in more opposite directions, as BC looks to get their first conference win and first victory over an FBS opponent.

Spread
Virginia Tech -20.5 (via ScoresAndOdds)
I like the Hokies here. Virginia Tech has a great defense and is only giving up 16.4 points per game.
It has been helping Logan Thomas guide them to a 6-1 record this season, although they haven’t been covering many spreads.
Boston College is having an atrocious year and has just one ATS win against UMass. This isn’t the week that they cover again.
Over/Under: 43.5
Go under for sure in this matchup.
Virginia Tech’s defense is going to stymie the Eagles and it should be a very low-scoring affair.
BC won’t touch their (inflated against bad teams) 19.5-point average, and VTech only averages 31.1 themselves total, with a huge blowout against Applachian State padding that number.
Boston College Key Injuries (via CollegeInjuryReport.com)
RB Andre Williams—QST (Ankle)—Williams has been filling in as starter since Montel Harris went down for the season. He was injured against Wake Forest and did not play against Clemson last week.
RG Ian White—QST (Foot)—White injured his foot last week against Clemson and will be a game-time decision.
Virginia Tech Key Injuries
CB Jayron Hosley—QST (Hamstring)—This 2010 First Team All-American hasn’t practiced during the week and may be held out after injuring himself against Wake.
DE James Gayle—QST (Ankle)—This kid has been starting full time on the defensive line but did not see action against Wake. It is questionable as to whether he will return for the BC game.
BCS/Top 25 Poll Implications
Virginia Tech is currently ranked No. 12 by the BCS and tied with Georgia Tech for a share of the ACC Coastal Division lead.
They need to win on Saturday in order to maintain or move up in the rankings and have a shot at playing for the ACC title.
Boston College is currently sitting at 1-5 and is pretty much playing for pride. They have yet to beat a single FBS team and have their only win over FCS UMass.
If they manage to keep things close, the computers will definitely dock VTech some points.
Keys to Boston College Win
Putting up points.
If BC can miraculously start scoring points against this Virginia Tech defense, they could potentially win.
It’s highly unlikely, as the Eagles average just 19.5 points per game and just 16.6 against the Hokies in ACC play.
This is a completely one-sided game, and it will be crazy if BC pulls out a W.
Keys to Virginia Tech Win
Frank Beamer wants his defense to perform even better than they did against Wake Forest, whom the team beat 38-17 and is actually legitimate this year.
That is not a good sign for BC, as it looks like they will keep the Eagles from changing the lights on the scoreboard too often.
If Virginia Tech just runs their standard offense and plays typical defense, they are going to win. If they step their game up to please coach Beamer, they are going to dominate.
Prediction
Virginia Tech 28, Boston College 3
