NFL Week 7 Picks: Which Underdogs Will Pull Off Huge Upsets?

John RozumOct 20, 2011

These are the games that all football fans love, especially when it's your team pulling off the upset.

That said, Week 7 in the NFL season will be no exception, and we'll all be left in awe after the upsets occur, even though we know they're going to happen.

So who pulls off the upsets this week? Let's begin with a sneaky, dangerous team in The Great Northwest.

Seattle Seahawks over Cleveland Browns

Sure, it may be the Browns, but when you look at the personnel on both teams, Cleveland definitely has the better team. Not to mention they're playing at home while Seattle comes in for a visit.

And outside of the upset win over the Giants, the Seahawks rarely win games away from home, but this week makes it two straight road wins.

In order to win, expect Seattle to blitz as much as possible in passing situations as Cleveland's strength is throwing the ball while the Seahawks' defensive weakness is stopping it.

Getting QB pressure is the key, and because of their solid run defense, Seattle will force Cleveland to stay one-dimensional, thus giving their blitzers an advantage.

When Seattle has the ball, though, don't expect too much. It's going to be a low-scoring affair, and the better defense wins it.

Washington Redskins over Carolina Panthers

The Redskins bring in a very underrated defense against a Carolina offense that has the ability to explode at a moment's notice.

However, the Panthers have a very weak rush defense whereas Washington is respectable with their ground game, not to mention they're starting with John Beck under center as opposed to Rex Grossman.

It's not going to be a blowout by any means, but this is a more important game for Washington as they still have a legitimate shot at the postseason. However, since they're 1-2 in the last three games, it's no secret as to why they're the underdogs.

Make no mistake about it, Carolina is the correct favorite since the 'Skins have yet to really prove anything; however, this game changes their confidence for the better as Grossman taught Beck how not to play QB in the NFL last week.

Minnesota Vikings over Green Bay Packers

Of the three this is easily the biggest upset but is also quite possible. The Packers have the No. 31-ranked pass defense and No. 24-ranked rushing offense. Minnesota, on the other hand, ranks No. 3 in rush offense and No. 5 in rush defense.

So for the Packers to dominate, airing it out will be the answer. However, the Vikings have played very well at home all season while if there's an area where Green Bay struggles (even in wins), it's away from Lambeau.

Also, the Vikings are going to play with reckless abandon because frankly, they have absolutely nothing to lose. Whether they win this game or not has no affect on their playoff chances because it's not going to happen.

Green Bay, however, is looking to win the NFC North for the first time since 2007, but with the Lions breathing down their neck, they can't afford an inter-division loss, especially since Detroit beat Minnesota already.

The key to this game is RB Adrian Peterson. He's arguably the best player between both teams, and even if he has a barely-over-100-yard day, keeping the Packers' O off the field will do wonders.

Not to mention, Minnesota has to be excited about rookie QB Christian Ponder taking over, who's a lot better than most cynics think.
